What is unique with the game Skate is its control scheme that manages to capture the true feel of skating compared to previous games of skating where only a normal button mashing gameplay is available. One of its features is physics-driven animations. With that players/gamers will have an amazing first-time experience each time they play this game as nothing is repeated in this game. Skate is a great game for people who are afraid to ski in real life. Like per say, a certain player quoted on how paranoid she was to play real ski as she’s afraid to break any one of her ‘special’ bones. So in other words, this game is a great exercise to be carried out by these kinds of people. The player’s character gets hit by a bus and then proceeds to have surgery done due to that accident. Thereafter, the player’s job is to win events and perform specific tricks which will land the player an opportunity to appear on the cover of two magazines. Equipped with great features like its innovative controls that can take advantage of the dual analog sticks, the extreme power of the next gen hardware and the knack to create/modify tricks of the players’ style or that portrays the players’ style. In other words, Skate conveys to players a unique experience in the history of skating games.
Overall, skate has great graphics and a fantastic control system never attempted by any other skateboarding games before. It also has plenty of game modes so that when you get bored or frustrated with the story mode, you can try a variety of other games. The graphics are good for a game of this type, and although the camera angle is annoying and frustrating at times, the game is a must for all fans of the genre, whether you are a skateboarder or not. 2 Comments After a decade of Hawk, skate is the equivalent of skateboard boot camp. Its a few hours before we plant our first successful grind / flip trick transfer. EA's entry grounds the sport back into reality, as every single trick is an Everest, every successful landing a momentous achievement. It's realistic, refreshing and fantastic; welcome to the hard-earned rewards of real skating. Read more
Simply by moving the controls from the face-buttons to the analogue sticks – an idea so simple it's amazing no-one though of it before – EA have created the best skateboarding title in years and in doing so have redefined the rules of the entire genre. A joy to play and a game which the inevitable sequel will have to go some way to top. Read more
Although not quite perfect, skate has outdone the Tony Hawk's series on its very first attempt, an achievement that really can't be understated. In crafting such an organic and well balanced control scheme, Black Box and EA have probably produced the great gaming innovation of 2007 and in doing so have reinvigorated a genre that was becoming stale through lack of competition. Beyond the brilliantly intuitive and natural control scheme, a thoroughly believable, solid a... Read more
Like the Tony Hawk games, Skate does occasionally stumble by throwing annoying goals at you, although only the races really fall into this category - even then, only a couple are more than a minor nuisance. If you were looking to pick holes, you could question the game's difficulty, the lacklustre character customisation and, indeed, several of the tasks. But to do so would be to do Skate wrong, as while it does occasionally hit a bum note, it does so many things abso... Read more
