18 Comments Before we get down to the serious business of critically dissecting the best open-world action game since GTA IV, here's a note to show the calibre of Mercenaries 2: World In Flames. Read more
The poor story is only the starting point: underpowered weapons and a horrific number of bugs make this one to miss Read more
Everybody pays! That’s the motto that runs throughout the sequel to one of the surprise hits of the last-generation, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. The world’s favourite Viking mercenary, Mattias Nilsson, is back once again and this time it’s a tale of revenge, oil, and making a mess of Venezuela. After being hired for a straight forward rescue mission you’re setup and almost killed by the people that hired you in the first place. But it’s not the almost being... Read more
Mercenaries 2 is the sequel to the open-world sandbox game that received so much critical acclaim back on the PS2 and Xbox. It was hugely impressive in its context, but has the next instalment moved with the times? Read more
A good while ago, the original Mercenaries game, Playground of Destruction, was released on the original Xbox. With an amazing open world and the fact you could kill or blow up EVERYTHING (often times both), it made for a very entertaining game. Hell, the Mercs 1 trailer alone tells you how great this game is. For the two of you who don't know, Mercs 1 took place in North Korea around 2009, and just before North and South Korea were about to re-unify into one big Korea,... Read more
Mercenaries 2 for the Xbox 360 (and PS2, PS3, and PC) is an incredibly fun action game that expands on the scale of destruction and explosives set by its predecessor, but a myriad of flaws in its presentation holds it back from achieving greatness. Playing as a mercenary in Venezuela, you run around looking for certain targets to either kill or capture. How you go about doing this is entirely up to you. If you want to take a tank and blow away a company of soldiers you... Read more
The reason I intially bought Mercenaries 2 was because it was $20 and I was getting bored with a lot of my other games. When I played the first mission the controls seemed pretty solid and the gameplay was fun. After I beat the the first mission and got more freedom in the open world. Vehicles and weopons were varied and fun to use but most of the world looked the same. Now on to the story. Basically it's a story of revenge. A guy sets yo up on a mission then betrays you... Other than the slightly improved graphics. The first game in this series was by far a better game; there was much more variety in the missions. I can only think of maybe 5 or 6 truly unique missions in this game. Everything else is just the same mission with different scenery. I liked the fact that taking over a vehicle wasn't as easy as just pressing a single button. Another nice touch was the fact that your standing doesn't automatically go down when you kill someone... Fun: First of all the online achievements are unattainable for me, i have to physically disconnect my network from my Xbox to get past the main menu's attempt to connect to EA's Merc 2 server. Secondly the controls for the tanks will make anyone who is a Call of Duty fan want to scream. Lastly after repeated attempts to correct my crashing Xbox, (profile changes, Zune video software removal, praying to the lord of games) I made the fullish attempted to enter to Pandemic... Read more
