Halo Wars takes place 20 years before the previous video game series, Halo: Combat Evolved, which was released in 2001. In term of gameplay, player enables to manage and build buildings and armies. The game features two playable sides which are the human UNSC and alien Covenant, each has its own abilities and capabilities. By using Supplies (resources) which can be found on the battlefield and claimed, player can upgrade buildings, train units and utilize their abilities. The UNSC build reactors, each bumping a player’s tech level by one up to a maximum of four. The Covenant builds a single temple, where up to three tech levels can be attained by researching Ages. As for the combat, each unit has its own strength and ability. Ground vehicles are powerful against infantry, infantry is stronger against aircraft, and aircraft are exceptional at destroying vehicles. Also, each side can bring one leader to the field, a hero unit with special abilities. Leaders determine what special skills and units that player can use, and each faction’s leaders operate in different ways.

Although Halo Wars can be rewarding and fun to play for a time, the short length of the single-player campaign and the lack of variety in the multiplayer ultimately leaves the game feeling unfinished and threadbare. It looks and sounds great, and it captures the essence of the series well, but there's not much else to keep you coming back once you've finished the short campaign and grown tired of playing multiplayer skirmishes between the two sides. It's good while it... Read more
Halo Wars might be a simplified RTS, but the brilliantly crafted control system helps make it just as enjoyable as some of the better strategic titles you’ll find on the PC. It does miss a few options, and the single player campaign won’t last much more than a weekend of gaming, but for Halo fans, Halo Wars is yet another in the series that requires a purchase. Read more
Converting a popular franchise from First Person Shooter to Real Time Strategy is very risky business indeed. The majority of Halo fans probably won't feel love for Real Time Strategy games and such a transition may not be welcomed, especially as Bungie aren't involved in development. Taking the helm of adapting Microsoft's golden child is Ensemble Studios (unfortunately recently disbanded), which may not mean anything to you, but to everyone else they're the makers of... Okay, I will be the first to admit that when I first heard about the concept of Halo Wars being an Xbox 360 exclusive RTS game I was a little worried. This isn’t because I didn’t have complete faith in the developers Ensemble studios, who are known for great RTS games like Age of Empires, it’s the fact that I would miss my mouse and keyboard. After playing some RTS games on a console it just didn’t feel right, like a new pair of shoes - It works, it was just that... Read more
Not quite as complicated as your average RTS game but works really well with a controller. They nailed the console RTS but it isn't quite as fun as playing a PC strategy game. Read more
Has many characters and special abilities. Halo Wars is an overall beast strategy game for the Xbox 360. It is a great sequel to Halo 3 and I personally love it. Read more
Summary: ou can't re-invent the wheel with this one but you've certainly given it a very polished alloy Read more
I've played Sega's "Universe at War" and a demo of EA's RTS. I like Halo Wars better than either of them, although I enjoyed them all. My only beef is that I wish there was a difficulty level between "easy" and "normal". There is an option for "auto" difficulty but who knows what that would mean? I got a good deal on this game [...]. It arrived in a short amount of time and in good condition. I am sure this game was worth at least what I payed for it. Read more
Fun: This review is from: Halo Wars (Xbox 360) (Video Game) Halo Wars is an RTS that serves as the swan song of Ensemble Studios before they were absorbed and de-atomised by the giant slimy corporate ooze creature known as Microsoft. The plot centres around the UNSC cruiser The Spirit of Fire and her crew 20 years before Halo1, they are assigned to protect and monitor the recently retaken planet of Harvest, however the after a total of 3 short missions on the planet that...
