Devil May Cry 4

The Devil May Cry 4 is the fourth instalment of the Devil May Cry series.

Features

In Devil May Cry 4, the player controls both Nero and Dante, the game’s protagonist and the series’ title character respectively and fights enemies in close combat using firearms, swords and other weapons. Other characters in Devil May Cry 4 include Lady and Trish from previous games, along with new characters such as Kyrie, Credo, Gloria and Agnus. In this game, players must complete missions to enter the next level, occasionally solving puzzles or gathering items. Performance in a mission is graded from D being the bottom grade through C, B, A and S being the highest grade, of which are based on items used, Red Orbs gathered, time taken, and the amount of Style points accumulated. Each style point grade has its own tag-word. Players use Proud Souls to purchase new abilities while Red Orbs are used to buy items. Proud Souls are rewarded at the end of missions and the amount varies depending on how well the player performs with S rank.

Review Summary

Devil May Cry 4 is an action adventure in which the hero, Nero, fights against demons, devils, and various other sinister enemies. The theme of Devil May Cry 4 is a supernatural featuring many incredible attacks by Nero’s powerful "Devil Bringer" arm. Stylish action, terrific boss fights, and beautiful, melodramatic scenes will keep you rooted in your seat to continue playing or slaying demons. This new arm can grab onto distant enemies and pull them in, pick them up, and slam them around and also other surprises. Devil May Cry 4 is challenging, though not quite tough. There are a number of gameplay choices for you to choose from. You have the option to choose one of two difficulties and you can also choose whether you want the game to perform automatically. The best parts of the game are the secret missions. The advanced graphics and techniques together with the visuals giving an attention to detail delight players as they explore new and exotic surroundings. Gamers state that Devil May Cry 4 with its superb action and style is a unique experience. Most reviewers state Devil May Cry 4 with its extraordinary action sequences highlighted by smooth controls and slick animations are all designed to amaze players. The actions are both stylish and beautiful. Though some reviewers find there are frequent repetitions in the environments and the fights, thus discouraging.

9 Comments Grinding is often a dirty word in videogaming. A phrase coined for titles whose gameplay is solely about levelling up your character. The method is in tackling the same enemy hordes repeatedly, ad infinitum. Grindcore, as we've termed it, is attractive only to a select audience. Hammering the 'A' button relentlessly is seen by most as repetitious boredom. Read more

So Devil May Cry 4 leaves me wanting more just like the first 3 did. It plays great, looks great and sounds great. It’s also something that the 360 just doesn’t have any of, and that’s character action games. Give it a go, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Read more

Where Devil May Cry 4 succeeds is its fun and carefree approach, not in its ability to win hearts and minds of the intellectual gamers out there Read more

The PC version doesn't support online leaderboards, but it includes two excellent additions: Legendary Dark Knight mode and turbo speed. LDK mode fills the screen with insane numbers of demons at a time and delivers plenty of excitement without becoming unfairly difficult. You can turn on turbo speed before heading into a mission, which hastens the tempo and makes for a great thumb workout. All told, Devil May Cry 4 is a great game, and it delivers a lot of quality... Devil May Cry 4 (DMC4) is set between the first and second games of the original three titles and introduces a range of new characters from the playable protagonist Nero and a whole bunch of other non-playable characters including the much lamented for love interest Kyrie. The game boasts an impressive one hundred and twenty minutes of cinematics to tell the story as well as some of the best visuals we've seen on a game since Gears of War . The story mainly focuses on... Read more

If you liked the original devil may cry you will love this. bottom line. Good balance between action and puzzles and the games moves forward at a nice tempo with an interesting easy to follow story. I bought Ninja Gaiden 2 after completing devil may cry thinking it would be similar but it was too action orientated for me and doesnt hold a candle to devil may cry in my opinion of course. Despite the stunning good looks, this game is quite shallow. The gameplay is very repetetive, and certain environments are visited again later on in the game(see ’Silent 4: The Room’ also), giving you the feeling that the game developers just couldn’t really be bothered. Very linear too. However the boss battles are fantastic, and the cut scenes are very good. For parents thinking of buying this for children - Violence throughout the game, involving fantasy... mix feelings about this game. I thought the graphics and sound was top notch, but the gameplay a bit boring. it felt like I was watching paint dry at times!. the save points I thought could of been better, instead of restarting the level when killed. and for those xbox360 owners the lack of achievement points until well into the game puts a downer on the game. overall i would give it a 6/10 but other gamers may disagree. Fun: This review is from: Devil May Cry 4 Ltd Edition (X360) (Video Game) I'd never played any of the Devil May Cry games before this one, so I only had a small amount of knowledge about the series. I've listened to a lot of my game design colleagues on their own opinions of the game and many of them being fans of the original games were not impressed with this title. So I decided to purchase the game myself to give my own review, not tainted by expectations. Although I... Read more
