Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter video-game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It is the fourth instalment of the Call of Duty video game series and is rated mature.

Features

In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the game is set in modern times, unlike the setting of previous games in the series which usually feature World War II. The story is centred around a fictional near-future conflict involving the United States, the United Kingdom and Russia, who are fighting against Russian ultranationalists in civil war torn Russia and rebels that have staged a coup d’état in a small Middle Eastern country. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare features new weapons and technology compared to its predecessors including the M203 grenade launcher, M4A1 carbine, the AN/PEQ-2 Target Pointer for use in conjunction with night vision goggles, the MP5SD submachine gun, and the FGM-148 Javelin portable anti-tank guided missile. Although players will gain access to the weapons over the course of the game, they may only carry up to two weapons in addition to grenades. In this game, players fight alongside AI-controlled team mates who help during the game’s missions by providing cover fire, shooting down enemies, and clearing rooms for entry. The character can be positioned in three stances including standing, kneeling or prone although different stances have different rate of movement, accuracy and stealth.

Review Summary

The Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is available on ps3, Xbox 360 and pc and what’s more is that each version is different from the other. This game conveys good frame rates and has good and easy-to-use multiplayer setups. In many ways, some players feel that it resembles these same features on Halo 2 & 3, by even having matching playlist. Players are allowed to create servers that allow up to 18 players to play at once but due to the size of its multiplayer maps, too many players might make it seem a little crowded. Lovers of this game will basically buy this game based on the controller they like the most as they all work just fine. The game’s multiplayer mode is like a hidden treasure waiting to be unlocked. High-quality story mode is such which create the thrills and unexpected moments to its players. Much to the sadness of its players, the single-player mode is so short-lived. But players who don’t appreciate great first-person shooter multiplayer should honestly skip this game. The quality of its content in the campaign is top notch while its multiplayer is the best around. In other words, the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a truly superb package.

So, four maps for 200 Points apiece. Both Creek and Chinatown are the highlights - the sort of richly designed multiplayer arenas that you'll keep coming back to, changing your style of play every time. Creek is a particular favourite, although my personal preference skews to foresty outdoor maps anyway. Killhouse and Broadcast certainly aren't bad maps, but they do come with enough caveats to make the hefty price tag a little less enticing. It's enough to make it worth... Read more

If you're going into Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare expecting a game that feels like the previous entries but with a modern setting and modern guns then you'll have an absolute blast. If the words 'Modern Warfare' give you expectations along the lines of GRAW or Rainbow Six however, both of which are very tactical and realistic as well as theatrical, then you will be severely let down in terms of how the game plays. Either way though, everyone will love the storyline and... Read more

I think this game is outstanding as a single player where Activision has put a lot of thought into there scenarios. I love the idea of playing Special Forces around the world where you are really up against it. However multiplayer it is a real disappointment as the online play you're at a real disadvantage when you start. In this I mean the selection of players you play against is random therefore you have a really high chance of playing really good players with much... Read more
