Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter video-game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It is the fourth instalment of the Call of Duty video game series and is rated mature.

Features

In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the game is set in modern times, unlike the setting of previous games in the series which usually feature World War II. The story is centred around a fictional near-future conflict involving the United States, the United Kingdom and Russia, who are fighting against Russian ultranationalists in civil war torn Russia and rebels that have staged a coup d’état in a small Middle Eastern country. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare features new weapons and technology compared to its predecessors including the M203 grenade launcher, M4A1 carbine, the AN/PEQ-2 Target Pointer for use in conjunction with night vision goggles, the MP5SD submachine gun, and the FGM-148 Javelin portable anti-tank guided missile. Although players will gain access to the weapons over the course of the game, they may only carry up to two weapons in addition to grenades. In this game, players fight alongside AI-controlled team mates who help during the game’s missions by providing cover fire, shooting down enemies, and clearing rooms for entry. The character can be positioned in three stances including standing, kneeling or prone although different stances have different rate of movement, accuracy and stealth.

Review Summary

The Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is available on ps3, Xbox 360 and pc and what’s more is that each version is different from the other. This game conveys good frame rates and has good and easy-to-use multiplayer setups. In many ways, some players feel that it resembles these same features on Halo 2 & 3, by even having matching playlist. Players are allowed to create servers that allow up to 18 players to play at once but due to the size of its multiplayer maps, too many players might make it seem a little crowded. Lovers of this game will basically buy this game based on the controller they like the most as they all work just fine. The game’s multiplayer mode is like a hidden treasure waiting to be unlocked. High-quality story mode is such which create the thrills and unexpected moments to its players. Much to the sadness of its players, the single-player mode is so short-lived. But players who don’t appreciate great first-person shooter multiplayer should honestly skip this game. The quality of its content in the campaign is top notch while its multiplayer is the best around. In other words, the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a truly superb package.

23 Comments It is 2005. In an isolated Californian cube farm, Activision rediscovers a small band of abandoned games developers known as Infinity Ward, that's convinced that World War II shooters are still going strong. After some persuasion, much therapy and having been shown screenshots of Rainbow Six Vegas, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Infinity Ward is convinced to admit that the long war is over (for the time being at least).... Given Infinity Wards impressive pedigree, it might not surprise many that COD4 is heading for some well earned recognition in the impending game of the year awards. Still, when you’re at the top of your game it’s very easy to take your foot off the pedal. The single player game, the arcade leaderboards and the mouth-watering multiplayer sections show every budding developer how it should be done when you are at the pinnacle of your game. For once a title has exceeded... Read more

Quite simply, Call of Duty 4 is a stunning game and quite difficult to fault. It looks, sounds and plays brilliantly and offers an unrivaled online experience. If we're to nit-pick, then the respawning enemies found in some parts of the Campaign can be frustrating and feel a bit old-fashioned compared to how advanced the rest of the game is. Really though, that's just about it. Go and buy it. Now. Read more

The world famous Call of Duty series is back with its fourth instalment of one of the best war games of all time. This time however it’s a little different; developers Infinity Ward have brought the Second World War game series in to the modern age and present you with the magnificent Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Every person young and old at some point in their life has thought about getting up on stage, pulling out an "axe" and jamming with legends like Slash! Well now is your chance, ok so it's not a real guitar and you won't be on stage banging out riffs one after the other in front of thousands of people but this is as close as you'll get to it, and for a lot of people this is as close as you'll get to being able to actually play the Guitar! Warning: Despite the label describing this as the Game of the Year Edition, the one I received was not. The only difference with the extended moniker is that you are meant to find a token on the back of the manual to download a key for the additional map pack, but the manual inside the box was just the plain old edition this time - no codes. The cover on the box clearly had the GOTYE name though. If it weren't for the bargain basement price I'd feel pretty annoyed about... Read more

This game has it all. Graphics like you have never seen before and top quality sounds. The intensity of the battles is nothing short of immense. It is the only game I have played that onced switch off, even after only one level, I need to remind myself I am not actually special forces. The battle fields are huge, the range of weapons amazing, and the enemy is smart. But the best thing about this game, on top of everything, is that it is hard. REALLY hard. This game is no... I am a big fan of the Call of Duty and Medal of Honor World War 2 games. I was not sure if I was going to like the change to modern warfare but CoD4 does it very well. All the action is still there with a good plot. Graphics are terrific as well as the sound. The addition of modern weapons, villians and locations make it fresh and much less predictable (something the earlier games were sufferning from). The controls are similar to the earlier CoD games so it is easy to... Read more
