Pros & Cons

  • charming art style, accessible fighting system
  • may be too simple, not enough people play, a little too safe, role playing elements pointless, no innovation

Apart from the fast paced combat and super responsive controls it’s the unique graphics engine used that sets it apart from the rest. Battle Fantasia is played in two-dimensions but uses three-dimensional polygonal character models cleverly illustrated and lit to emulate 2D style sprites. The result is called ‘2.5D’ and delivers an amazingly fast and fluid fighting game that will satisfy novice players and hardcore fans alike! With an impressive roster of unique chara…

Developed by arcade veterans Arc System Works Battle Fantasia is like no other fighter thanks to its unique cast of fantasy inspired characters alongside a storyline and script that stays true to its Japanese heritage and manga roots. In keeping with the fantasy themes of the game Battle Fantasia also has elements familiar to fans of role-playing games. Instead of having a standard health bar characters have hit-points that drain away as they take damage. As a result... Read more

The main criticism though is the by-the-numbers gameplay, which adds little we haven't seen before, and while the styling is a nice departure, many will find the overly twee presentation a bit too sugary for their fighter tastes. Some would also argue that the small character roster is a bit stingy, although for my money it represents a level and tight playing field far removed from Arc System Works' shenanigans with the Hokuto no Ken licence. Unsurprisingly then, Battle... Read more

Battle Fantasia is a game by Arc System Works , the very same team behind the Guilty Gear series. Battle Fantasia was released ages before console version of Street Fighter IV in all other territories but here we get the game roughly two months later. With Street Fighter IV being all the rage these days, is Battle Fantasia still worth checking out? Battle Fantasia plays a lot like Street Fighter IV in the sense that it is a fun and accessible fighting game that does not... Read more

I had fairly high hopes when I bought this game, being a long time fan of old and current JRPGs. I thought this was an interesting idea, creating a fighting game primarily marketed to JRPG fans, and thought it held alot of potential. I was very, very wrong in these beliefs. The voice acting, which is all in original Japanese, is absolutely horrible! I couldn't believe that the original Japanese on a game could be worse than some of the awful English dubings I've heard... Read more

won't come to the ps3 in the U.S., since there is going to be an english version in the U.K. released, but I already have the U.K. version pre-ordered just in case it doesn't release stateside, for those of you who don't know ps3 games are not region locked therefore you don't have to deal with the crappy d-pad on the 360 for fighting games...... if arksys releases it stateside on ps3 they will still get my money stateside, or if microsoft releases a controller with a...
