If you're looking at the game from a licensed point of view, it's got everything in there, minus a couple of more recent wrestlers, and the addition of a few 'legends'. It also looks great – the wrestlers are modelled and animated very nicely for the most part, especially for the intros where they've really captured the characters of the wrestlers. I'm sad to say this, but it seems like the only companies cut out to do a spectacular WWE game other than Yukes would be Spike (Fire Pro) or AKI (Wrestlemania 2000, No Mercy, Def Jam series) - both have about a 2% chance of happening. Unfortunately, in the end, WWE Wrestlemania 21 is "surely not pushing the Xbox anywhere near to its limits and it fails to capture the essence of WWE, feeling outdated and sluggish to play. While Wrestlemania 21 certainly has its moments, the flaws found out the core of the game, in addition to the disappointing Xbox Live performance, means it finds itself dangling in the middle of mediocrity. Wrestling fans may find some enjoyment here, but for others, your best bet is to dig out that N64 and play the brilliant WWF No Mercy - the game that Wrestlemania tried so hard to be. Read more

There’s no doubt Wrestlemania 21 has some great ideas, no more so than the new reversal animation system for all the moves. However, as in real life it’s all very well having somebody like Trish Stratus as your girlfriend but can she cook? Can she clean? Will she look after you when you’re ill? I think not.
