   Apple has taken a seemingly minor upgrade of the AirPort Extreme Base Station and made it into a major improvement. Owners of the first model of the 802.11n Base Station who need speed may be slightly chagrined at how far Apple has boosted performance in just a few months. But the company has now set a high bar that it can improve on little with the current 802.11n and Ethernet standards underlying the Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station's networks. Read more

   Verdict This is an attractive and functional piece of equipment, but British broadband users are likely to be tripped up by its lack of internal modem and requirement for connection to the internet via Ethernet, which isn't the most common configuration and may require investment in more equipment.    Our only complaint is that it would have been nice to have included a DSL modem in the unit, to save this beautifully crafted device sitting on a ugly grey box that is our modem. Apple has gone as far as including a 56K modem but not one that supports DSL. Aside from that, it looks good, works efficiently and effectively.
