See moreThe Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (PES 2008) is an association football video game developed and published by Konami. It was officially announced on 18 June 2007. It is also known as Winning Eleven Play Maker 2008 in Japan.
The Wii version is very different form the other versions as it was devloped by a different tem in Konami that focused on taking advantage of the unique features of the Wii Remote. The gameplay is centered on pointing the Wii Remote at the screen and directing players by dragging them with the on-screen cursor, and passing is done by pointing to the desired space or player and pressing a button. This allows for a more tactical approach to the game, and players can move the on-screen player in virtually any direction, allowing for more tactics and maneuvers to be used. Players can defend by pointing the cursor at the ball holder to chase him, and they may tackle or slide tackle in an attempt to win the ball. In addition to this, it is also possible to instruct defenders to mark opposing players, intercept passes and drag defenders into space. The game has three modes: single player, multiplayer and online multiplayer. The Wii version offers players 30 stadiums to choose from in its Match Mode. Friendly matches can be played with up to two players against each other. When using the Champions Road Mode, users can select what abilities their players acquire when they gain enough experience to level-up. Besides that, there is the Mii Mode where players can play friendly matches. During these matches, players have comically large heads, including the non-Mii players. Only the referee and the linesmen appear normal. This feature has to be unlocked. Furthermore, the PES 2008 features a 1 versus 1 online mode, where players can either play against random opponents or online friends. It is also possible to send the current Champions Road team to friends via WiiConnect24 to play ‘invitational matches’.
See lessThis game does its job very well - it's a new and refreshing way of looking at the football game, and Konami deserve huge praise for trying something truly different with a brand that, it could be argued, has been stagnating since the breakthrough PES4. Highly enjoyable, unique and absorbing, PES isn't just the best ever football game on a Nintendo platform, it's a beacon to other third-party developers that should reawaken their imagination in approaching old formulae... When Pro Evolution Soccer was at its peak it was hailed as the king of football games, offering great depth of gameplay and realistic ball physics. Recent updates of the franchise however have been accused of getting stale, seeing only limited tweaking and perhaps not being worthy of forking out the cash for. This all changed with the late release of the Wii version of PES 2008 . With PES 2009 for the Wii just around the corner, we thought this would be a good... Read more
While the game play isn’t anything new (well what can be made new in football?) the controls are unrivaled in their brilliance and i hope will become a mainstay for this series and several others. The inclusion of online play is not only a godsend but another worthy reason to buy the title not to mention Nintendo WFC player trading, online friend stat tracking/cup progress and the use of Mii’s as players makes this one of the Wii’s essential purchases even for the... Easily the best football game on a Nintendo system. It takes a while to get used to the new controls but once you get your head round them, they become second nature. Read more
The Pro Evolution franchise has been going for some time now but has never really been established as the superior football game behind Fifa. Although it brings better gameplay, more forms of play, and maybe even better looking when it comes to graphics in the PC and PS3 versions, it still seems that the licensing that Fifa has overrules each and every good aspect that Pro Evo has to offer for the majority population. When I found out that there was going to be a Pro... Read more
Most people will prefer one or the other: Pro Evo or FIFA..for me, I'd always preferred FIFA, but having a wii was a whole new ball game. So I thought I'd give pro evo a go. I'd seen the adverts, and quite honestly, they'd put me off a little. It looked over-complex and confusing to use the controls to any real effect. I'm the kind of gamer not to read the manual, so I came straight home, put the disk in, connected the nunchuck and dove staright into it! I wondered if... Read more
I first saw this on the TV advert like most people. It was intriguing to find out how well this game really played first hand as we all know Michael Owen is a bit clumsy. I encountered Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 one weekend in the Tesco sale. It must have been about Read more
