In the game, Mario goes on a quest through space to save Princess Peach from his arch-nemesis, Bowser. The levels are in the form of galaxies that contain minor planets and worlds. Mario travels from one galaxy to another to collect Power Stars with the help of Lumas. The Stars are collected by defeating enemies or completing quests. Mario also has the ability to turn into Boo Mario and Bee Mario among others. In this game, each celestial object has its own gravitational force, allowing players to completely circumnavigate rounded or irregular surfaces, walking sideways or upside down as well as jump from one independent object to and fall towards another one close by. Characters are controlled by the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Mario can carry out all the same moves as in Super Mario 64 like long-jumping, wall-jumping and somersaulting and has a few new moves that use the Wii Remote’s pointer and motion sensing. The Star Pointer, which appears on-screen for the entire game, both marks the position of and is controlled by the Wii Remote. First and foremost, the Star Pointer is used to pick up special konpeito-shaped objects called "Star Bits", which are then shot to stun enemies, manipulate obstacles, or feed Hungry Lumas. Secondly, the pointer can latch onto small blue objects called "Pull Stars" that gradually pull Mario through space. Lastly, if the player becomes encased in a floating bubble, the Star Pointer is used to blow air at it in order to influence the direction and speed it moves. The player can also “Spin”, to stun enemies or shatter objects and is used to trigger special propellers called "Sling Stars" or "Launch Stars" that launch Mario across large distances through space. Apart from that, there is also a co=operative two player option known as “Co-Star Mode”.
In Super Mario Galaxy, the hero Mario’s mission is to rescue Princess Peach from weird creatures. The story takes you on an exploration race of planets across the galaxy. You, as Mario will have to run, skip and fight enemies and defy gravity in your aim to succeed in your mission. Super Mario Galaxy makes full use of all the features of the Wii Remote, thus players to succeed must be adept at pressing buttons, swinging the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk, and even pointing at and dragging things with the pointer. The more agile you are with the controls, the better you’ll be able to succeed. Super Mario Galaxy takes advantage of all the unique aspects of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers, coming out with new moves as players shake the controllers. The aim of this game depends on Shaking, Tilting and Pointing, and this what makes Super Mario Galaxy attractive to gamers. Reviewers find that most gamers like the 3-D platforming genre with Super Mario Galaxy and this by far is the most attractive feature of the game. Players can perform mind-bending, low-gravity jumps across wild alien terrain as they experience platforming. Super Mario Galaxy is sure to please old and young alike.
See lessSuper Mario: Galaxy is certainly the Wii’s strongest title yet and few would disagree that it’s also one of the best games Nintendo have ever produced. If you are lucky enough to own a Wii then this is one title you shouldn’t miss out on. It really is that special. Read more
Mario has not grown older, but younger with time: more slender, more supple, more graceful. It is as if the boundaries of the genre have become transparent, allowing a unique light to shine forth. Super Mario Galaxy will influence gaming perceptions, sure to replenish any lost passion. It will frequently hug your inner child, evoke tears of joy and tug at the heart. It is everything we have always desired, more than we could possibly have dreamed. Read more
They've done it. Miyamoto and his team have managed to take the tired platforming genre and turn it into something magical all over again. If you have a Wii, buy this. Simple. Read more
Mario must be without doubt the hardest-working guy in gaming today. After shooting to stardom by saving a damsel in distress from the clutches of an evil barrel-tossing ape, Nintendo’s mascot pretty much hasn’t stopped. Even when he’s not saving the world, he seems to be doing something. Painting, racing, fi ghting, playing football, golf and basketball, hosting parties… you name it, the mustachioed dungaree advert has probably tried it and more than likely done... Read more
Why am I reviewing a game that came out more than two years ago? Because Super Mario Galaxy is (to date) the greatest game on the Nintendo Wii. Case closed. Released in 2007 as a Christmas title, the game has sold over 8 million copies, won a BAFTA award for Game of the Year and is hailed by Guinness World Records as Number 29 of their ‘50 Must Own Console Games’. Charles Martinet returned once more to voice Mario and his in-the-background younger twin Luigi, once... Read more
Well what a game. its got good gameplay and graphics are really flashy. I has all the glitz of Super Mario 64. But one anoying thing the control is crap. You should be able to use classic controller for this game. like all the new games have. it would be perfect. so shame about that. its a awesome game. well done nintendo but shame on you for the control. yes you get used to it eventually after hours of playing. Graphics are beautiful, fun to watch - like an interactive movie, but disappointed that it is mostly played by a single player (a 2nd player can shoot at stars, but that seems a little boring). Wish both players could play the actual levels, even if they took turns switching back and forth between mario and luigi like the old super mario bros used to. Read more
