Travis must defeat ten other bloodthirsty killers to become the best. With the Wii Remote spectacular wrestling moves become easy. No More Heroes is mainly a love and hate story with plenty of action and intrigue. It also features plenty of rewards, making the combats exciting. Many reviewers find themselves enthralled by the joyous, stylized action and awesome performance. They find the motion controls to be awesome and they like the concept of the story with its weird characters, drama and humor. You are armed with a weapon of your choice which you can upgrade. After a fight, you can unlock two new missions. Some reviewers find that the missions are almost identical. However the difference lies in the ways you fight with the enemy in each mission. There are plenty of small details and gameplay detours to keep you going. The visuals are amazing with highlights in its clean textures and animations. The combats are stylish and the dialogue is just too good. No More Heroes is dark, engaging and entertaining. Most gamers find that the fantastic combat is an enough reason to play again and again.

Pros & Cons

  • intense action, just plain fun, epic boss fights, engaging story, innovative concepts
  • repetitive gameplay, frame rate gets erratic, not enough content, poor storytelling, framerate issues

No More Heroes certainly isn’t perfect; the tasks you’re given in-between missions are dull (calling to mind the same boredom experienced when you had to get a job in Sega’s Shenmue), the Grant Theft Auto-style driving sections border on the pointless (we can only assume they’re intended to be a thinly-veiled dig at the successful franchise) and the general gameplay doesn’t actually change during any of the assassination missions. But regardless of these... Read more

Some might knock it for being more straightforward than expected, but its style and sense of humour turn a simple slash 'em up into something genuinely enjoyable. Read more

No more heroes is one of the funniest and most inspiring action game ever. The adrenalin-full action and the originality of the main contest make this one an obliged choice for all the lovers of this genre. Played at the normal level, it’ll take you a dozen of hours away, but completing it at its 100% is a pleasant experience that notably increases the longevity of a game that, still, compared to its “colleagues” stands in the average. The use of the wiimote... Read more

The concept of No More Heroes is brilliant, even if it does borrow heavily from Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies. Travis Touchdown, motel resident in the fi ctional American town of Santa Destroy (at least, we assume it’s fi ctional), is on a mission to become the world’s deadliest assassin. But there are ten deadlier assassins ahead of him in the offi cial rankings of a shady company called the United Assassin Association, so Travis needs to fi nd and kill all... Read more

Travis touchdown is a man after my own heart. He's a perverted otaku who one day buys a beam katana (lightsaber) off ebay and decides to become an assassin. There's no sob story, no other motive, he kills because he wants to. Travis is convinced to become the number one assassin by killing off the 10 people above him. After playing so many rpgs where every little thing is analysed this somehow makes for a really refreshing story; he's in the game for the same reason you... Read more

No More Heroes is a game with a unique sense of style. It draws from varied, even dispirit sources such as Star Wars, 8bit games, anime, luchador wrestling and act as a homage, parody, satire of these various sources. The game swings dramatically in style putting together almost contradictory, with interface elements that resemble an 8bit game placed on top of slick cel shaded graphics. It mixes drama and tragedy with humour and fourth wall breaking in the same breath.... Read more
