  • Failure of controls

Having installed 9000 drivers, I found that after a short time ALL controls came up blanked - sliders grey instead of red, nothing worked. At first rebooting computer temporarily cured, then didn't cure. Reinstalling 9000 software cured temporarily, but soon failed again. Had two substantial problems with other apps and with operating system, so used HP Recovery partition to restore factory settings and reinstall XP Home, losing all non-factory installed software. Comprehensive hardware tests run from Recovery, no failures. Reinstalled handful of apps - MS Office 2003, Paint Shop Pro 8, AVG 8.5 virus/malware/identity protection (as always removed factory installed Norton), Opera 10, Creative Audigy 2ZS, Ulead VideoHome and Studio, Corel, Belarc Advisor, plus HP printer and scanner drivers. Installed 9000 drivers. At first worked perfectly, tested with several reboots, no problem. Later reinstalled drivers for Tascam US-122L MIDI interface. Several more reboots, no problem. Then recurred on a reboot and now NOTHING WHATSOEVER will restore controls. Camera stuck with settings it had before failure, next to useless. Obviously do not want to keep using Recovery and reinstalling all software. Installed on HP laptop running Vista Premium Home and old Packard-Bell running XP home, NO PROBLEM, but need to use on HP desktop. Can provide complete system profile from Belarc if necessary. Can anyone help?

I bought a Logitech Quickcam 5500 and it worked very well as a webcam, but I couldn't get skype to recognise it, so it was, after all, not easy. Does anyone have an explanation and will I find the same probs with any Logitech webcam? I run XP.
