The Sony KDL-40W3000 is said to be dressed in dark grey and has a "Full Pixel" 1:1 mapping that gives a superb HD detail or resolution, three HDMIs, two and more component inputs, the remote control is ergonomic and backlit, slick EPG with pin-sharp text and greyscale tracks are extremely well post-calibration. It delivers the most accurate colours with excellent colour decoding. Together with excellent blacks and shadow detail. This unit handles 1080p/24 signal from PS3 as well and can achieve zero overscan with the widest variety of signal seen on a flat-panel TV. There’s also an independent input memory settings, speedy navigation of on-screen menus and channels. Images are sharp, bright, colourful, smooth and natural looking. Users noted that this was very impressive for an LCD. Reviewers from the site hdtvtest.co.uk concluded that this unit produces the best pictures ever seen on a flat-screen LCD TV so far and it is highly recommended. Reviewers from another site noted that the on-screen menus are models of clarity; it’s a breeze to set-up and a delight to use help by an oversized remote and reviewers from hdtv-news.co.uk stated that this unit change everything from standard definition to high definition and it makes the pictures actually come to life.

Hi Unfortunately I no longer have the Sony KDL40W3000 , and so couldn't test your proposal. However, by raising your black level over a certain limit you might have exceeded the bit-depth and bandwidth on the said connection, hence the artifacts. Warmest regards Vincent
