Review Summary

With the Samsung PS50Q7HD you get a big TV and don’t have to burn a proportionately huge sum of money. It is easy to see what we are getting at by simply looking at the basic facts: you get a flat TV screen size of 50 inches with a price tag of under £1750! There is no compromise on quality however - at the first glance. Everything about it exudes quality, right from its rich glossy finish to its deep black colour scheme and elegantly sculpted lines. The TV also includes a new ‘FilterBright’ element in its screen that claims to cut out 90 per cent of ambient light-induced reflections. There also is a 7-day electronic programme guide system together with and memory space for storing multiple recording timer events.

The PS50Q7HD’s budget price somehow seems to be an indicator of the TV’s average connections. It only has one HDMI socket and two scarts; there however are a couple of jacks that immediately prove the presence of a built-in digital tuner along with a CI slot for subscription TV channels as well as a digital audio output. This makes it possible to ship Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks o a suitable surround sound receiver if the Freeview terrestrial digital platform broadcasts any.

One of the common areas of improvement for relatively inexpensive plasma TVs is sharpness. This however is not the case with this Samsung machine - it is totally capable of doing justice to the extra pixels of detail and texture that are found in high definition sources, and also makes standard definition sources look reasonably crisp. Movements are also stable and clear. It removes lots of unwanted side effects making it a fair deal for such a cheap TV.

I bought my 50" plasma from Comet. I was actually intending to buy a 42" Plasma but when I saw this one, I loved it. The price was right too. I got mine for £1100; Comparing well with the 42" Plasmas and this is a 50"!! Great! I bought it and here is what I think: Great picture and sound quality. It also has many menu functions being a Samsung. One downside is the size - Ironic. I had to get a VW Taxi bus to get it home and that was £50 - who wants to wait 2 days for a... Read more
