Its performance also comes close to that of more expensive class leaders and showcases a stunning design with high-definition compatibility, advanced picture processing and integrated Freeview. The screen and accompanying swivel stand are entirely coated with a heavily glossed, black lacquer that is more eye-catching than most budget models. The sleek finish is accentuated by a seamless casing with barely visible joints. The attractive, slender remote shares a similar colour scheme. There isn’t enough space to accommodate all the controls, but all the primary functions have been thoughtfully positioned and there are several ‘shortcut keys’ to save you the trouble of having to access the menu every now and then.
On screen menus are easy to use since they are represented with neat graphics. There are several picture preset modes defined by your room’s brightness; the Standard setting performs the best in most cases. Otherwise, you can customise individual settings, including colour tone. A few primary controls have been almost discreetly integrated on one side. The opposite corner features the standard AV inputs that can be easily reached too.
The Samsung LE32R74BD’s picture performance is impressive for the price without reaching exceptionally high levels. On the audio side, the TV speakers are very average and can be enhanced using either analogue stereo outputs or an optical digital output. The small speakers lack weight and dynamics, and high volumes are frequently affected by sibilance, while the surround effects only serve to muffle the dialogue and create an unwanted echo. Over all, it is good looking with more high-end features than you would typically find at this price - a great bargain hence.

This TV looks great, with smashing pictures. Audio may be poor, but for £1,050 you get a picture equivalent to more expensive flatpanels, which frees up some cash for a decent speaker system. Read more

Having looked at nearly all LCD TVs over the past month the Samsung stood out from the rest in picture quality - yes it even beats Sony - by a mile. It does everything that I will ever want. I am still trying to find a fault with it. Having read all the other reviews, what planet are some people on?! Digital tuning is one of the fastest out there. In my view Samsung have got it right for once. I am still looking for a fault with it! One of the best! Read more
