This fully integrated, high-definition compatible 43-inch plasma TV is surely Pioneer’s way of ensuring that its television model 436SXE is as good as plasma can get. This fully integrated, high-definition compatible 43-inch plasma TV is surely Pioneer’s way of ensuring that its television model 436SXE is as good as plasma can get. As the name suggests, for years Pioneer has been leading the way in plasma development. However, this is Pioneer’s first effort to integrate all features within a ‘one-body’ unit, without an additional media box. It surely is not a new concept but with the 436SXE, Pioneer seems to have perfected this art - all connections, TV tuners and speakers are conveniently accommodated within the screen. The accompanying remote is stylish but a bit oversized for the number of controls that it accommodates.

The glossed black frame is flawlessly finished with its rounded edges and a slim-line speaker system that is integrated across the base. The rear panel is also encased in a metal chassis. The beautifully constructed design of the Pioneer PDP436SXE features a future-proof specification, including integrated high-definition and Freeview compatibility. Pioneer has used an entire range of state-of-the-art technologies to create images that have amazing depth, detail and color intensity across various sources.

The front panel conceals a set of regular AV inputs that are easily accessible in case you would like to make temporary connections for devices like a camcorder or a games console. The spacious rear panel supports three scarts, of which two are RGB-enabled for the highest level of performance possible. It was surprising to find only a single set of component inputs and just one HDMI digital video input and no VGA PC terminals. This is a potential problem if you own both a set top box as well as a DVD player with HDMI; in this case you will be forced to switch between a single input. One area for improvement hence is that the connections could be more extensive.

But, if performance is a priority, look no further!
