The Pioneer DV-380S is a best buy DVD player as per ratings by several prominent critics and its performance surely does live up to this verdict. Slender in design as most DVD players in this range are, the silver grey exterior blends in with most decors and makes a fitting accompaniment to sleek plasmas or LCD or even the traditional (and almost extinct) television models. In other words, it will not contribute to your living room looking run down because it does not look its best!

The menu systems supported by the Pioneer DV-380S is simple and extremely user friendly. The remote control that comes with this DVD player is also perfectly in sync with the main set in terms of both appearance as well as functionality. You can be rest assured that you will not find weird notations and symbols on this remote control which you will need to decipher by poring over the user manual for hours. Picture and sound quality are out standing and complement high performance screens and audio systems that you might want to use for expensive home theatre systems. It also supports the multi disc resume feature. This means the player will start the disc where you stopped it (instead of at the beginning from start each time) and models with multi-disc resume remember where to start playing the disc even after you’ve removed it and reinserted it.

One drawback is that the Pioneer DV-380S DVD player does not support the book-marking feature. Models with book-marking allow you to mark favourite scenes or places in a disc so that you can quickly find them again. Some of the more sophisticated DVD players let you bookmark several discs at a time and will ‘remember’ your bookmarks even after the disc has been removed. The other disadvantage is the fact that it does not have a Scart lead.
