To be honest, I'm approaching the Philips 42PFL7404 today with a degree of trepidation. For while every model I've seen from Philips' all-singing, all-dancing 9000 TV series has proven suitably impressive, I wasn't entirely blown away by Philips' attempt to step downmarket a little, in the shape of the 42PFL8404 . This is an excellent TV from Philips for those who don’t watch TV with the lights off. The black levels are a little too grey for this. Otherwise, everything else is very good! Read more
Philips have created another LCD TV that produces the goods in terms of picture performance, but now with the added advantage of price competitiveness. The 42PFL7404 competes head on with the likes of Samsung, Sony and LG in this sector. Add superior build quality along with stylish looks and Philips look like they have created a winner. Read more
The 42PFL7404's pictures do have a couple of weaknesses though. First and worst, as with the LG model they lose contrast and colour when watched from any sort of angle. But also, the heavy-duty processing in the TV can occasionally make standard definition pictures look a touch bitty, and moving objects a touch distorted around the edges. Read more
Add to all the picture glories some solid audio that's rather light on bass, and the 42PFL7404 adds up to a really compelling option for anyone whose budget points them towards the sub-£1,000 flatscreen price bracket. Read more
lovely tv, picture brilliant. colours are amazing. easy to use. excellent quality. had a philips 42pfl5603d previous bought at christmas but my son threw a toy at screen and it smashed was very happy with this tv so knew i would replace it with another philips. would definately recommend. even tv films look brilliant, and games/ pc screen. no blockiness at all. clear perfect picture.
