The high-definition compatible 37 inch LCD television from the house of LG offers an affordable price and average performance. Not only does LG’s new flat panel look rather stylish with its ultra-robust build quality, matt black colour scheme and cool silver strip, it also showcases a large number of features behind its plush screen. Among the latest high-definition LCDs this sleek frame that extends to a pair of integrated speakers on each side is absolutely at par with some of the more expensive screens. The set’s audio is more than capable too, being able to deliver richer, deeper bass and sheer power than is common in the world of LCD televisions.

The LG 37LC2D offers the functionality that supports sourcing picture via an RF input which can be looked at as a positive. The set has attractive and well-organised onscreen menus, which offer a pleasing degree of flexibility for the user. For example, there are separate MPEG and XD noise reduction options; while the former reduces the appearance of the digital decoder ‘blocking’ noise that’s particularly noticeable with digital TV broadcasts, the latter tackles a range of other noise types like grain and mosquito noise. Also worth mentioning are options for tweaking the picture’s flesh tones, green tones as well as blue tones.

One of the big negatives is the presence of only one HDMI socket. This would restrict connectivity in a big way since it would only be able to accommodate the HD source and nothing else. Standard picture via the RGB port is not a great idea in this television set. The HD functionality is barely mediocre and fails to entice. The disappointing thing about picture quality is flexibility; numerous experiments with the settings and contrast / tones we never quite sufficient to achieve a picture that was perfect.

LG's LCD makes a great first impression, but problems become obvious when it's been in use for a while, or when you watch a standard-definition fare. While the asking price is low, the performance problems make it hard to recommend the 37LC2D. Read more

The LG 37LC2D is a good all round budget 37in LCD but it is really starting to show its age and limitations even in the budget category. Hard to believe that the 37LC2D was in stores last year for a whopping £1,500. Read more

It’s no accident that LG and Samsung are responsible for more than their fair share of the TVs we’ve covered so far at TrustedReviews. The two Korean giants are exceptionally prolific by AV standards, rolling out new LCD and plasma ranges almost faster than we can keep up with them (and supplying panels to many other AV brands while they’re at it). So if there’s one thing we should definitely be able to expect from LG’s latest 37in LCD offering - that it’s... Read more
