Features

The Pioneer CDJ-400 features anti-vibration buffer with internal cue point memory. A USB port found on the face of the player allows DJs to play their MP3 music collection from thumb drives, MP3 players or external hard drives. Locating and accessing of files is done with a multi-function selector knob/button and its bright, dot-matrix LCD display, and with a turn and press of the control knob. The CDJ-400 is a native controller for software such as Pioneer DJS computer software and SERATO® Scratch LIVE, where for example movement of the pitch slider on the CDJ-400 can control the pitch slider on the computer software and no timecode The player can also act as a MIDI controller where the user can assign every button on the player to trigger functions of various DJ software programs. The CDJ-400 also features, in addition to vinyl mode scratching, three highlighted buttons assigned to a special effect, Bubble, Trans and Wah. A “hold” button retain the different effects throughout the session or until its release, which can also be triggered at any point of play. This unit also features Digital Loop functions where a variety of loops can be created for additional audio effects, Beat Loop, that automatically creates a four beat loop based on the tempo of the music (BPM) being played, Loop Divide, which rhythmically divides the loop to create different patterns, Hot Loop, which restarts the loop from its entry without interruption of the music. It also features Digital Jog Break where in CD mode the CDJ-400 contains three effects, Jet, Roll and Wah, which further enhances the audio by rotating the jog dial. The same buttons for the Scratch Jog Effect are assigned to the Digital Jog Break which are accessible at any point of play, Tempo Control with four tempo modes, ±6%, ±10%, ±16% and WIDE, provide additional speed control with a resolution of 0.02% in the 6% range, Cue/Loop Points with up to 10 cue/loop points per disc, for up to 920 discs, can be stored to player’s memory, Jog Indicator where a red halo illumination around the jog provides visual feedback to the DJ, Customizable Jog Wheel where users can create their own customized image to insert under the removable jog wheel top, Digital Output for a direct connection to a connected mixer, and Resume Function where the function takes effect if a CD is ejected accidentally. Once the DJ re-inserts the disc, it automatically starts playing from exactly the point where it stopped.

When it comes to music, new technology has in many areas grown to complement rather than supersede the old ways of doing things. This is particularly evident in the world of DJ’ing, with vinyl retaining a die-hard following. Increasingly, though, digital solutions are just as likely to be found in a club as analogue ones, and Pioneer is one of the leading manufacturers of digital DJ decks. Its new CDJ-400 sits somewhere around the middle of its product lineup, offering... Read more

Introduction There can be no doubt when I say that Pioneer own the DJ CD deck market. Like the Technics, the mighty CDJ range has become the standard install for many clubs and an essential buy for many DJs wishing to make the jump from analog to digital. When Pioneer released the original CDJ-1000 and subsequent 800, they ruled the roost, led the pack plus many other euphemisms meaning they pwned the scene. But the competition soon caught up and even surpassed the... Read more

  4. Pioneer CDJ-400 Digital Deck

Two highly significant and related events occurred for me last year. The first was the birth of my son, followed a close second by the reluctant sale of my beloved pair of Technics SL-1200Mk2 turntables. The latter were the DJ decks of choice throughout the 80s and 90s, but sadly they and my extensive collection of 12in records had to go to make room for the growing mountain of baby paraphernalia. I switched from the CDJ-1000 to the CDJ-400 (and DJM-400) last November. After using these for a year, I can happily say that I would highly recommend them to anybody interested in DJing. They are PACKED with features; things that Pioneer didn't HAVE to include, but they did. On top of that these are compatible with Pioneer's "DJS" DJ Software! FEATURES: Compact size, full of features. +/- 100% pitch adjustment & Master Tempo (allows the tempo to be sped up or slowed... Read more

This unit looks and works great after one year of good use. No problems other than if the iPod flakes out sometimes. I highly recommend this item and wish I could afford another one. Read more
