In a report by Biosmagazine.co.uk, the Epson Perfection V700 is a powerful performer that offers leading scanner technologies which comes with Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 (FireWire) connectivity ports. They also incorporate an innovative Dual Lens System and Digital Ice Technologies and 4.0-DMax optical density. Using 2 lenses instead of one single lens, Epson has been able to incorporate high resolution scanning in a relatively cost effective unit, without increasing the A4 footprint or compromising on quality. It comes with 4 film holders that support 35mm film strips and slides, medium and large format film. If that’s not enough, Epson’s Digital ICE Technologies is an impressive software and hardware combo that automatically remove dust, scratches, dirt and fingerprints from film and photos to create a crisp and clear final image. Those with heavy scan duties will be pleased with the ability to batch scan multiple originals. An anti-reflection optical coating is applied to eliminate reflection and ghosting, helping to produce sharp and clear images, while a high reflection mirror improves the reflection of the scanned light to the sensor, resulting in faster scanning speeds. Unfortunately, Epson has not included any optical character (OCR) software for scanning letters and other text-based material and the unit’s document-management capabilities are basic considering the lack of an automatic document feeder (ADF) and indexing program. The color restoration software also seems to apply correction by default, so tweaking is always required. Overall, it is a remarkable value for money. The fact that users can scan almost anything that can fit onto the glass platen, as opposed to dedicated scanners, which have a fixed scanning format, it all adds up to make the V700 simply superb.

What you need in a scan is strong detail (colour can be altered later) and in this regard the V700 was excellent at capturing all the nuances of the image. Read more

Epson has been pushing dedicated film scanner, scan quality for some years and now, with the V700 the results are certainly better than most dedicated film scanners. When you realise this scanner is under £400 (around £399 actually), and it is better than most dedicated film scanners that would cost double its price, it’s remarkable value for money. And when you dial in the fact that you can scan almost anything you can fit onto the glass platen, as opposed to... Read more

I have only had time to try out the scanner a few times - with 35mm slides, some very old and tired, and black and white prints. So far Im impressed. The picture quality is excellent, but I expected that. I only really uprated from my Dimage Scan Dual II because I wanted to batch scan slides. What has amazed me is the software: before Ive always avoded any corrections in the scanner software and processed the raw scans in Photoshop. But the inbuilt V700 software is... Read more

It's a great little device with plenty of features that I would highly recommend. This really is a wonderful piece of kit that should go well with many accessories because it really looks good. However, always think carefully as to whether you actually really need something before you buy it. We buy so many things nowadays that we don't really need. Read more
