Review Summary
The Canon CanoScan 4400F includes a lot of features and scanning kit and offers 4800 x 9600ppi optical resolution with up to 48-bit colour depth. The scanner has seven “EZ” buttons with one-touch operation of various features and common scanning tasks such as scan to email, PDF file creation, copying and PDF scanning in colour or mono. These are very useful and some of them can be customised to your preferences. The Z-lid is designed to accept thicker items for scanning on the A4 flatbed, such as books. The scan quality of the 48-bit colour depth looks good but it is difficult to maintain the quality when you want to save it as JPEG or print. Thus the 48-bit colour can only be handled with only professional packages such as Photoshop. On the other hand detail and optical density is good. The multi-photo scan mode enables the scanning of documents or books and will automatically crop and straighten the documents. This is an ideal and great advantage, especially if you want to get a group of scans ready quickly. Its included software is all-inclusive,
and includes ArcSoft PhotoStudio basic image editing software, OmniPage SE OCR software, and Presto PageManager to help organise and manage your scanned documents. The USB2 connectivity guarantees the connection to your Mac or Windows PC. Reviewers at www.pocket-lint.co.uk find that the Canon CanoScan 4400F may have a few weak points ‘but it can produce excellent scans and is very easy to use.’
Scanning at an extraordinary 4800dpi, the CanoScan 4400F delivers top quality images without blowing your budget. Boasting a FAU, QARE Level 3 and 7 EZ buttons, this super-fast scanner is smart and…

A4 flatbed scanner with 4800 x 9600ppi resolution
Reviewer: Pocket Lint09 May 2007- Overall 8

The Canon CanoScan 4400F may have a few foibles but it can produce excellent scans and is very easy to use (barring that frustrating FAU adapter/holder) thanks in part to the EZ buttons. QARE and the nice software interface in either Canon’s Toolbox of when using the scanner through a TWAIN complaint package such as Photoshop. But the decisive factor for me comes when you get a look at the price, £79 including VAT. This makes it excellent value for money as well and a... Read more

I ordered this scanner on the internet and having been unable to examine it in any retail outlet . I had read good reviews on it and given it was a Canon product was relatively inexpensive and would scan slides it was ordered. Sadly while it certainly is very fast and produces excellent scanning results on documents and photographs its a whole different matter when it comes to the slide magazine :- 1) this will not accomodate AGFA plastic slide mounts as they are slig... cut to the chase. tried direct from screen .. then close up lenses .. extention tubes & now a 4400f dedicated film scanner to copy my slides. Ive been messing with photos / lenses etc for a long time now (years) .. so ive had some experience. I new there were film scanners out there .. but never looked into it till now.The Canon 4400f scanner is not a expensive way to get your best slides to disk. Albeit the 4400 is a bottom of the range scanner .. & will scan slides ... Read more

I am trying to use the supplied CanoScan OCR program, but whichever mode or selections I make it will not run the OCR program, I get the message ‘Unable to scan, make sure that there is enough space on the targe...
