Summary: Failed after 2 years. Seems to be consistent with other reviews. Prior to failure, seems to have worked well in my domestic network. No sockets to wall-mount and rather weird & bulky UK plug would be the other issues of note.
Summary: Netgear GS608 8 Port Gigabit Desktop Switch http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-GS608-Gigabit-Desktop-Switch/dp/B0007SQEPU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1379774899&sr=8-5&keywords=8+port+netgear Is this an 8 Port or a 5 Port?? Titled 8 but there are 5 port information contained within????? This I find very confusing, please check it out and correct listing.
Summary: I fixed this in my loft (drilled screw holes in the mounting brackets). Connected it up to distribute my network around the house which included PC, Sky multiroom boxes and Blueray player. Just plugged it in and powered it up and it has been working ok since.
Two of these have silently failed at 14 to 18 months

Summary: I bought this product because I have used Netgear hubs since the 90s. No more. Two of these, one a replacement for the other, subtly failed. Speed to peripherals across the switch slowed by a factor of ten to fifty: packets were lost. The troublesopoting to narrow the problem to the switch took a couple of weeks. Did not attempt warranty replacement. Shall never buy another.
Summary: Very pleased with this little 8 port switch, I've had it for nearly 2 years now and its faultless. There were a couple of niggling points that I've managed to somehow iron out. 1. I have a business class vigor router through which I've done port mirroring(for the uninitiated it basically allows the monitoring of all traffic so you can manage bandwidth, block stuff online for your kids or isolate certain protocols like P2P in a business environment).
Summary: First of all I love netgear and have always used these products. It was so easy to install thanks to the plug and play setup. It was an attempt to increase the speed of my music server in my music studio. It actually increased the speed of my entire home network which is about 15 devices. Of course all of these devices are different operating systems such as windows 8 and windows 7 as well as the vista system that it is attached to via cat 6 ethernet.
