  • Excerpt: "...rather confusing at times. With NETGEAR being one of the dominant brands in the router market I was expecting a much more polished interface. Once I finally got the router set up (after a couple of HOURS!), I decided to test the range. I wish I hadn't. My router is in an upstairs room which is very close to the stairs themselves and the router is by the door in that room. If I go downstairs, the router signal dropped to about 20% - very poor. If ...

Problems Solved

  • Summary: My router was infuriating to start with constantly losing WiFi signal every 10 minutes. I then did a firmware upgrade and vitally important a full factory reset and the unit now works fine.

A brick.

  • Summary: If this device were just a bit heavier, a little more sturdy, and not quite so ugly, then it would make a perfectly servicable doorstop. Good points: Easy to set up (DSL username and password entered and it connects to the internet no trouble), and it works fine when wired. Bad points: Wireless just Does Not Work.

Nothing but trouble

Cheynne, Amazon
23 May 2012
  • Summary: Had nothing but trouble with this unit from day one, gave up on the weak wireless side of it and resorted to having to plug appliances into it, had to re-set the unit at least once a week. Now the final straw is that trying to update the firmware yesterday the unit went into meltdown and refuses to connect at all, spoke to tech helpline and thankfully their sending out a different unit and he said l can take a hammer to this one. (can't wait!

awful product

billybuts, Amazon

  • Summary: Got this router that was intended as an upgrade to the faithful old DG834. What a mistake! The setup went fine and was easy enough to do, as most netgear's are. Connected via ethernet for the initial setup and didn't notice anything untoward. Set the wireless up for wpa2 and changed the wireless mode to bg for my old laptop. Connected ok, but subsequently found that browsing was ponderously slow. This was also the case on another laptop in the house.

InterNOT

Mr. William R. Petersen, Amazon
6 April 2012
  • Summary: Got this router with Virgin Broadband service in my new house. Problems started straight away, assigned 3 laptops the same IP address so had to change the IP manually on 2. All 3 experienced extremely bad signal, 1 bar in the next room, only way we could get full signal is placing the laptop next to the router. Stability was awful, speed all over the place & randomly dropping over & over again. Tried changing the wireless channel, blah blah blah & still no joy.
