It’s a moment of rejoice for the PSP lovers as the original form of MGS is back with the upcoming of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - an obvious reincarnation of MGS3: Snake Eater. For portable use, certain fine-tunings and changes to the controls are in place, but they are not in any case detrimental to the spirit of this fictional espionage. The story is the standard science fiction cum military conspiracy, with a narrative twist of Solid Snake’s clone father from the 60’s. What’s exciting about the plot is its transformation from solo adventure to a squad’s mission while keeping intact the adventure’s original elements of outlandish battles & rouges, stealth & spying action, and quest for blood. The players’ manipulation in the drama of Metal Gear is another attractive feature of the game. The recruiting of the team members is the responsibility of the player who assembles and manages them via a world map interface thus making him responsible for the failure or success to the mission. Moreover, the drama is heightened by recruiting foes via kidnapping them to work for the player’s sneaking team. In this way, the recruit can walk freely through the enemy camp without getting noticed. Above all, the game also allows the player to use PSP’s Wi-Fi function to go online and swap the recruits or get or get new ones. Despite some alienating features like cut-scenes typical of MSG games, nothing can replace this bountiful enjoyment of hours.
