Pros & Cons

  • action cutscenes, gentle learning curve, great 5, nice graphics, refined most wanted formula
  • but definitely a con, easy difficulty curve, occasional colour casts, frequent load times, it s choppy

You never thought it would turn out like this, an all-out chase where you’re the hunted. And the hunter. Now you must get behind the wheel and risk everything to infiltrate a ruthless international crime syndicate and take them down. The man you’re after is a maniac behind the wheel, and he’s driving like his life depends on escape, which maybe it does. He’s the one with all the answers you need, you will track him down. Need for Speed Undercover is a racing video game developed by EA Black Box and published by Electronic Arts. It is the 12th installment of Need for Speed series. It was released on November 18, 2008 in North America; November 20, 2008 in Australia; and November 21, 2008 in Europe. It allows single player and multiplayer modes. It was rated as T by ESRB, M by OFLC, and 12+ by PEGI.

Features

The Undercover features a new open-world map that consists of 100 miles of road and a highway system. There are four boroughs of the game environment that make up the Tri-City including Palm Harbor, Port Crescent, Gold Coast Mountains, and Sunset Hills. Besides that, it also features four water crossings which are the Main Guy Causeway (Ocean Expressway connecting Sunset Hills to Port Crescent via man-made island), the Vale Causeway (Sunset Hills to Palm Harbor), the North T Causeway (Man-made island to Palm Harbor), and the Memorial Tunnel (Port Crescent to Palm Harbor). In addition, it features a contiguous highway system that circles the Tri-City, which the four boroughs are actually share a piece of the large circuit. As for the police system, it uses a similar bar graph at the bottom of the screen that moves between the blue "Evade", and the red "Busted", on the left side, depending on the player’s speed and proximity to police. Meanwhile, the Cooldown" period after evading pursuing police units returns as well, along with heat levels, speed breaker and pursuit breakers. Furthermore, it features damage system but the damage only affects the cosmetic of the cars and does not affect the performance. The player can gain reputation points as they progress through the game’s story by participating in side missions or performing flashy maneuvers in a police chase.

There's certain things you come to expect from video game franchises and woe betide any developer that dares to try anything new.  Rare recently found themselves such victims with the decision to drop classic platforming action for vehicular gameplay in Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.  Similarly the same could be said of last year's attempt to change the Need for Speed format.  Since its inception back in 1994, one element has characterised the Need for Speed series,... Need for Speed doesn't really deserve the score it's getting. Technically, it's a mess, with some odd lighting and shadow effects, laggy multiplayer, a dreadful framerate and a lifeless city. The full motion video isn't as funny or as polished as say Red Alert 3, and the whole story seems somewhat disconnected to the rest of the game. It's also generally a pitifully easy game to play, with little challenge or sense of accomplishment. However, even with this catalogue... Read more

The Casio Exilim EX-Z550 is an inexpensive, easy to use, snapper that allows you to do a little bit more with your images - and videos - within the camera than your bog standard £100 budget-priced compact. Little extras that reveal its manufacturer's consumer electronics heritage include the handy inclusion of the video record button, making it easy to swap modes in a thrice.Overall the camera's image quality may not be perfect, but again this has to be set against the... It’s a shame for Undercover that the designers seemed to be too intent on offering visual brilliance and dodgy storylines than give us a slice of classic racing. While the racing is decent enough to claim a reasonable score, the poor technical aspects, combined with some strange design decisions make this the racing title to leave on the shelves this Christmas. If you want to drive crazily modified cars, boost like a madman, smash through police roadblocks and have a brilliant time, then don't buy this. Find a copy of Need For Speed: Most Wanted in a bargain bin and save yourself about £35. You won't regret it. Read more

First hour of the game was absolutely appalling, stick with it though, it does get better. Cops are back, thankfully, but the sheer amount of chases become tiresome. Plenty of different race modes to keep you entertained, masses of cars to purchase. A decent game, very short though (though a lot longer than Carbon), and at times lacked direction in the plot. Scenery feels very "Most Wanted-y". Handling is, at best, iffy...you have to nitrous drift to carry any real speed... Read more

This was a great game right from the begining when you started out in a Lamborghini gallardo right from the start.  What stunk though, is that you lost the car on the first level where you have to buy a crappy car.  I bought a orange chevy cammaro and put a purple pig graphic on the side - pretty sweet. Any way, you start out doing races and then over time you get into cop chases and other fun stuff.  The game has a great storyline  and a awesome selection of cars... Read more

dont get me wrong i love this game even though i only got it 3 days ago but the thing is is that it doesnt progress as fast as i would like it to i would love to be able to get things done rather than wait two minutes so the game could load and i hate when it blocks out the sound when it does one of those cool action scenes so what im saying is overall its a great game but it needs improvements Read more
