Okay, so you usually have just the one option and that's running around a small arena ramming the business end of your shotgun down your enemy's throats while crying about lag and half-thinking of jumping to the Quit Match option as you'll know you'll never steal the lead that pwnedurmom69 has built up. I must admit that despite playing a lot in the past, recently RTS just haven’t ‘done it for me’, PC RTS come with huge manuals or PDFs and the menus are often incomprehensibly overcomplicated requiring you to learn and identify 50 different icons before you can so much as move a soldier or build a city. Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution has no such pitfalls, it plays a fine game, a fun game, and may well convert RTS-curious to the genre. For console gamers... Read more
Sid Meier's Civilization: Revolution may not be world beating but in the land of the consoles it's certainly a march in the right direction. It presents a solid, fairly streamlined experience that's accessible to console players while still providing an engaging layer of depth. Playing with friends, as with most games, seems to be its lasting legs, as the standard single player affair is a fairly limited experience. No unique content is provided in the sit-alone sessions... The game looks beautiful, with characters well rendered and animated. However, the game tends to hang when loading these characters, and the mumbling speech get irritating very quickly. In terms of game play, people who have not played Civ before or find the PC version too complex will enjoy this throroughly, however, fans of the original series will be frustrated by the missing elements (control over city resoure use, making demands of other civilisations, building... I brought this game after loving the PC games and after finding nothing like them on the Playstation 3. The game is very fun and is a scaled down and easier version of the PC games. However, it limits your turns before the game runs out. This ruins it and spoils the fun. The graphics are very good and amongst the best I have seen on the Playstation 3. The soundtrack is very good but the framerate is bad and the game crashes at certain points. The gameplay is really fun... Read more
