Pros & Cons

  • nice set of games, rage gauge, it’s cheap, archeological value, sweet memories
  • 90s graphics and sound, no new value, minimal amount of extras, aged poorly, it’s really old

When compared to other retro compilations, you could be forgiven for thinking that three games just isn’t enough. But the fact is, even the best game company would have to work hard to beat Art of Fighting Anthology and retro collections are usually let down by including inferior games with a few notable gems anyway (yes, Namco, I’m looking at you!) Some history of the games, their creation and their promotion would have been the cherry on top of an already delicious... Read more

It is nice to see some of the forgotten games from SNK's past making their way onto systems where everyone can enjoy them, but there are so many better titles that we wish they would dig out. We can only hope some of the better and rarer games (such as Last Blade or Mark of the Wolves ) will be getting a release soon. For now, even at a budget price, this particular art is best left in a museum. Read more

Anthology includes what were actually three arcade games, later ported to the Neo Geo: The Art of Fighting, The Art of Fighting 2, and The Path of the Warrior: Art of Fighting 3. The newest one looks the best and probably plays the best; whereas the early games were just relatively poor Streetfighter wannabes, 3 seemed to have its own identity. You'll also open up the story of crooked cops and bloodthristy killers that sets the stage for the later "Fatal Fury" games. Read more

Weighing in at little over the price of an XBLA download (about a tenner from the right shops), Art of Fighting Anthology is a rare bargain - especially from new. This alone makes the Anthology highly desirable, and if it provides nothing more than a weekend's worth of revivalist violence then you'll have got your money's worth. Read more

I always believed that the Art of Fighting series were badly underrated. It never really caught on like the Fatal Fury or later the Samurai Shodown series. But it did had its merits nevertheless from the hugh characters to the sprit meter which limits how often you can special moves to the graphic scaling. All 3 games in the series are 100% versions of the arcade ports. Sadly, SNK Playmore didn't bother to do more like tighten up the controls in the 1st. Art of Fighting... Read more
