For once, allowing for greater automation has improved a strategy game. Reducing micromanagement increases the interaction you have with your forces in Hearts of Iron III because you really feel like a political leader instead of a drone shuffling troops across a map. This is still tailored for experienced strat heads and wargamers with a lot of patience, but the game is more accessible than either of its predecessors and a great jumping-on point for new players who want... Hearts of Iron 3. PC Game. Paradox Interactive. $39.99. Passed Inspection : Good strategic level of war with enough operational level to make it fun; division-building with mix-and-match brigades is a major step forward in the genre; tech tree covers wide breadth of era tech advancement but stays simplistic enough to grasp by most players. Industrial production, research and development work well. Unit graphics are passable, and map is easy to read and understand. Read more
Paradox completely blew the user interlace. Rather than tweaking and enhancing the very good Hoi2 GUI, they opted for a complete redesign. Bad release, not too uncommon from Paradox when there games go gold, but this game as is, from the 1st release out of the box was unplayable really...now on the 3rd Patch it's better..but IMO HOI2 has more play ablitity in it's latest forms/mods...also it's the most ahistorical of all three HOI games least it seems to be that way, The tech tree is complex and vague at the same time, that's one of my biggest irks, also the new army formation, where you "build" division of... Where can i start, from the obvious ploy to omit important units from the previous versions of this game and roll them into sprite packs to be purchased for extra on top of the $40 i just spent to 18 hrs of gameplay having only simulated two months out of the 1936-1948 campaign. On to the ugly visuals of units that I use to enjoy so much in all of the other Paradox titles are gone and dead; i use to enjoy the model's animations but no more. The submarines look like odd... Read more
