Far Cry 2 is a first person shooter and sequel in name only. Taking place in Africa the player selects one of several mercenary personas to use before they go to work for diamonds. As usual there are conflicts between rival militia groups so to profit the user capitalises on their hate taking missions aimed at the others demise. Far Cry 2 is an incredibly visual game where a mission is organised i... Read more
Incendiary explosives, for example, pack an explosive punch that's worryingly therapeutic in its destruction of pretty much everything. Imagine the pleasure you can have by placing one on the route of those armament convoys, waiting patiently behind a tree for the precise moment and then raising hell - priceless! Then there's the 'Grassy Knoll' approach we took to killing a high ranking official at a troop rally. We were no match for the horde of troops so we simply sat... Read more
Far Cry wouldn't be Far Cry without a heavy dose of jungle. While you will be crawling on your belly through the forest, it's not all-consuming like before. The canopy opens up and there are large expanses of open ground where there's hardly a piece of bark in sight. "It was an absolute requirement that Far Cry 2 maintain the exoticism [of the original game]," explains Pharand. "The African savanna was a natural choice because there are several different kinds of plain... Read more
I never played the original Far Cry, so I didn't know what to expect when Far Cry 2 came rolling into town. I bought the game after reading the excited posts about it on the 1Blog . The first thing that strikes me about Far Cry 2 is that it isn't Far Cry. From what I've read, it doesn't share the same story, characters, or even genre with the original game, instead setting iteslf in an unnamed African nation where two factions are fighting for control. Far Cry 2 has... Read more

Far Cry 2 sends you to Africa within seconds of it loading up. You immediately feel dirty, alone and far from civilisation. The characters and landscape are immediately threatning, and you begin to look for the exit immediately. As soon as you are left to your own devices, you feel like you are in Africa, from the sun beaten dirt roads, to the dilapidated shanty structures and the eternal buzz eminating from the insects. So, you gather yourself, grab the resources you... Read more
Given the many bad reviews, I was very hesitant to buy.. The reviewers could not have been more wrong. It is an AWESOME game. A classic example of a great game which was misunderstood by most gamers. As mentioned in most reviews, the map is huge and you have to travel all over to complete missions. It seems MOST of the negative reviews fail to understand the PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION system in the game. There are BUS STOPS clearly marked on the map -- one at the four corners... Read more
