Far Cry 2 is a first person shooter and sequel in name only. Taking place in Africa the player selects one of several mercenary personas to use before they go to work for diamonds. As usual there are conflicts between rival militia groups so to profit the user capitalises on their hate taking missions aimed at the others demise. Far Cry 2 is an incredibly visual game where a mission is organised i... Read more
Pros Sandbox gaming in an FPS! Mesmerizingly good gunplay. A nifty map editor. Cons Sandbox elements don't always mesh well. Lengthy drives across the savannahs. AI that's occasionally suspect. For the first few hours of play, Far Cry 2 will have you tearing your hair out, but stick with it because as you get used to the gameplay and the story opens up, it truly becomes the Heart of Darkness that it seeks to emulate. The story, based on Joseph Conrad's 1902 novel (which... Read more
Jack Carver isn't here. The monstrous Trigens are gone and tropical island from the original game is over a thousand miles away. Instead, we're on the sprawling plains of the African savannah, and our enemies are angry humans and hungry wildlife. Far Cry as you knew it is dead: long live Far Cry 2. If it's not white beaches or slathering mutants, what is it? In short, everything. Far Cry 2 is hugely, impossibly ambitious. It's Stalker gone on safari; it's Boiling Point... Read more
I never played the original Far Cry, so I didn't know what to expect when Far Cry 2 came rolling into town. I bought the game after reading the excited posts about it on the 1Blog . The first thing that strikes me about Far Cry 2 is that it isn't Far Cry. From what I've read, it doesn't share the same story, characters, or even genre with the original game, instead setting iteslf in an unnamed African nation where two factions are fighting for control. Far Cry 2 has... Read more

I gave up after putting 15+ hours into this and getting only 40% of the way through the game. Save yourself before getting caught into a web of boredom and monotony. Read more

Fun: This review is from: Far Cry 2 (PC) (Video Game) So here we are...finally a half decent fps. It all began with Far Cry - a good game but with a anti-climatic end. Then on the same engine we get Crysis - again a pretty decent stab at fps but a powerful pc needed to enjoy the game fully.....now we have Far Cry 2 and WOW! No stupid mutant monkeys or aliens with freeze rays and a topical real world (believable) storyline. Ubisoft have pulled out the stops on this baby.... Read more
