List All 6 PricesIt's impossible to condense an experience as broad and as rich as Empire: Total War to a few thousand words. Its complex amalgam of turn-based empire building and real-time skirmishing is exciting and involving, and it's both fuller and more streamlined than its predecessors. But like those predecessors, it inspires that compulsion to accomplish just one last turn, even when your eyes are bleary and your body longs for sleep. Although some rough edges are in serious need... Read more
Empire: Total War is so vast and complex that any one error could have brought the entire thing tumbling down. Instead, everything’s been polished to such an unnerving degree that Empire: Total War stands tall as one of those games that makes PC gaming worthwhile. Read more
In a similar style to its predecessors, Empire: Total War is a game of two halves. But do not be alarmed beloved reader, for I am not talking about football. A massive turn-based campaign map houses empire building, resource management and army movements, while the actual battles are fought out in real-time strategy on both land and sea. Veterans to the Total War family will know that naval battles were one of the few low points in what is a highly successful series, but... Read more
There comes a point when you just have to sit back and admire the sheer ambition of Empire: Total War . The Total War series has never exactly been humble in its objectives, but it is remarkable to see how far the series has come since the original installment, Shogun , was released in 2000. Put simply, Empire makes Shogun look like a quaint little board game. A lot of games claim to be 'big' - which usually means they're loud, sparkly and have a huge marketing budget -... Read more
There is a very good reason that I do first impression pieces as well as reviews. How often have you played a game for a short time, formed an opinion of it and then had that opinion totally changed by the games end? Lots of times right? Therefore I think it’s a mistake to offer a definitive opinion on a game unless you’ve experienced it from start to finish because more often than not you’ll regret it. In the case of Empire: Total War , I have rarely been so... Read more
Well I best start by mentioning the Game requirements of Empire: Total War , so I do not build up your desire for the game and allow you to be let down by your computer not being up to speed with the vast amount of storage space and graphics needed. -2.4 GHz Processor -256 MB Video Card -2 GB of RAM for Vista, or 1 GB of RAM for XP -15 GB Hard Drive Space. Comparing this to its predecessor, ' Rome: Total War 'which required a mere 2.9 GB, ' Age of Empires III 'that... Read more
I downloaded the DEMO version mainly to see how the naval battles would be handled (as a seasoned Total War gamer) and basically the main problem was that you have to go online with ’Steam’ to play. The whole programme was ’steam powered’ - very slow and sticky so virtually unusable. Fortunately the naval battle tutorial was the one aspect that did work - ’JUST’! The game quality looks brilliant and control of the ships is just right. I can only pray that... Read more
I'm a huge fan of RTW and M2TW, and I had been looking forward to ETW...until I heard about the Steam DRM requirement. I decided to pass, but got it as a Christmas gift. The (online)install took HOURS, and I dislike the fact that steam opens itself up in my systray when I start up. You can play off-line, but as best I have been able to determine you have to select off-line each and every time you wish to open the game. I'm a soldier, and M2TW pretty much got me through... Fun: This review is from: Empire: Total War (PC DVD) (CD-ROM) I agree with many of the reviews, that when this game began it was riddled with incompletness. As if they completely failed to time-manage properly and thought, fek-it, we'll release an unfisnished, non-tested, game. However, many patches have come out to fix the vast majority of those issues, and they really have worked. I know it's annoying that you have to download them etc. (if you pay for a game, you...
