The Pioneer DVR-115D supports “Buffer Under Run” protection for both CD and DVD and has a data buffer size of 2MB.
The Pioneer DVR-115D allows a maximum writing speed of 20x CAV at 27.70 Mbites per second for DVD –R/ +R and 10x Z-CLV at 13.85 Mbytes per second for DVD –R DL/ +R DL (Dual/ Double Layer media), as well as a maximum reading speed of 5x for DVD-RAM. It has an access time of 130 milliseconds for DVD-ROM, 210 milliseconds for DVD-RAM and 120 milliseconds for CD-ROM. It uses an ATA/ ATAPI-7, SFF- 8090 interface and PIO Mode 4, Multi Word DMA Mode 2, Ultra DMA Mode 2/ Mode 4 IDE Data Transfer Mode. The Pioneer DVR-115D can be mounted horizontally or vertically with an allowance of +/- 5 degrees. An additional note would be that an 80mm disc cannot be used when the drive is vertically mounted and the case remains even when an adapter is used. The Pioneer DVR-115D has a power requirement of + 5V 1.80 A with an average of + 12V 1.30 A during a 20x CAV DVD-R writing process. The power consumption of the Pioneer DVR-115D is at 24.6W average during the 20x DVD-R CAV writing process. The Pioneer DVR-115D meets UL60950-1 First Edition, CSA C22.2 No.60950-1-03, EN60950-1:2001+A11, CB Report: IEC60950-1:2001, FIMKO, SEMKO (Optional) regulatory approvals.

The support for overburning with DVD recordables is a plus while we would welcome any Pioneer's decision to offer booktype setting sometime in the future. The DVR-115D can be found at the stores for about $30-$40. Read more
The Pioneer DVR-115 is another very decent driver from Pioneer. It lacks that killer feature or figure needed to establish it as a must-buy. And it'll be very interesting to see what the SATA-powered DVR-215 can do. But should you need a workable EIDE DVD writer, this'll be a very acceptable product. Read more
