    Getting a complete all-in-one for £40 is a pretty good deal, but there are entry-level machines from all the major makers now, so there's quite a bit of choice. Epson produces both photo all-in-ones, the Stylus Photo range, and what it calls general-purpose Stylus ones. The Stylus DX4400, with its four pigment-based inks, is designed for home printing, scanning and copying. Read more

    A bottom of the range all-in-one that's drab in appearance, slow in operation, noisy and with the most basic of controls, yet still manages to produce remarkably good quality photo and text results at high resolutions. Read more

    The Epson Stylus DX4400 was particularly slow at scanning and, although scans were rich in colour, they lacked crispness. This model is fine for home office duties, but its photo-printing credentials are only average. Read more
