Review Summary

Sony Ericsson W890i is an ultra-slim 3G Walkman mobile phone. It measures 104 by 47 by 10mm, weighs 78g body and is available in silver, brown or black finishes. Sony Ericsson W890i can be said to be stylish and is loaded with lots of interesting features. The 3G connectivity is offered with HSDPA for higher-speed data downloading and web browsing. However the camera is a 3.2-megapixel one but not of Cyber-shot quality and with no in-built flash or auto-focus. People who would fall for this model would be more of the music lovers and walkman types. Sony Ericsson has included the latest Walkman Player 3.0 software in this device, with a large 2GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) card as part of the in-box package. Reviewers from reghardware.co.uk find that the W890i’s keys are well spaced, finger-friendly, touch sensitive and comfortable. The call and end keys are on either side of the control keys, arranged into circles with a clear button and an Activity menu key. The music player controls are fixed on to the central navigation pad. The display is a 2in, 240 x 320 screen capable of showing 262,000-colours. It is adequately bright and clear for viewing content. As a fully-fledged 3G phone, the W890i also includes a secondary video-call camera above the display. Reviewers find the call quality on the W890i superb, with unfailing clarity on both ends of voice calls.

Play it your way - It’s your music. So have it your way: SensMe™ lets you create playlists based on mood. When you want new songs for your phone, just click the PlayNow™ icon, pre-listen and buy. *…

There are plenty of features in this mobile phone, but what really makes it stand out is the superb design. Small and shiny, it is light and usable. If you don't need a sophisticated camera in your phone it could be ideal. Read more

This is probably the best handset I've seen in Sony Ericsson's Walkman range. I'd like a bigger screen now that 3.5G web browsing is a reality, but I don't want the buttons compromised to get it. And on the camera front - well, maybe it is time for Sony Ericsson to bring its CyberShot and Walkman ranges together? Read more

With negatives being scarce, it is difficult not to like this phone – a minor foible with the Walkman controls and headphone socket, but an otherwise great little package. Things just work here, the size is right and the W890i doesn’t go overboard with trying to complicate things. In fact I’d go a stage further and say I’d be happy to have this as my phone as it is just a pleasure to use. Read more

Other than that, the phone and its capabilities are excellent, especially the internet which feels a lot more user friendly than previous phones I've had. I only wish they could have included some more of the photo features from the Cyber-Shot phones. As expected, the music capabilities are good, although I have some gripes with the menu system but which on the whole, is pretty slick. A good phone overall but the battery may let you down!! Sony Ericsson W890i Walkman Phone After years of being on Pay as you go (due to huge phone bills!) I decided in March of this year to give contract another go, especially as O2 had some great offers on the online tariffs. So off I went to the O2 website, browsed through the phones with a tendency towards Nokia as they have always been good for me, but also with an open mind to Sony Ericsson due to my last 2 phones being Sony Ericsson. Eventually I decided on the W890i... Read more

I have been using Sony Ericsson phones for four or five years and this is my favourite one to date. The software is excellent and makes the phone a pleasure to use. The screen is much better than previous models, meaning internet browsing is much nicer. The camera quality is good, as is the media player. To top it all off the phone is slim enough to fit in your pocket - unlike the iPhone. I highly recommend this phone. Read more
