Every now and then EOS, the goddess of mercy, seems to speak to the Canon lens designers and this time they listened carefully. The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM L IS may well be the very best tele zoom on the market today - it is certainly the best Canon zoom lens tested locally to date. The lens was capable to deliver a near-flawless performance is all categories. The resolution figures are stunning regardless of the setting. Distortions, vignetting and CAs are nothing to... Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM is clearly one of the best EF mount telephoto zoom lenses available on the market. The lens shows outstanding image quality with particular strength in the 70-135mm range. Combine this with excellent build quality, well controlled artifacts such as vignetting and chromatic aberration, and you get a winner on your hands. Granted, Canon offers a full lineup of 70-200mm lenses in its modern portfolio, including a somewhat cheaper, non IS... Read more

It is very pleasant to test the lens and have nothing bad to say about it in the summary. In all honesty, the only major flaw we would point out would be the performance for the maximum aperture at the 70 mm focal length. In our overall judgment, the results are very good, but when seeing very high results at other diaphragms and focal lengths, we would want more! Can the high price be a con too? I did write this as a con and I would leave it if the stabilization was the... Read more
This was my first significant lens purchase, and it hasn't disappointed. I have a Rebel Xsi, and without the battery grip, this lens would seem a bit large on that body, but otherwise it does a phenomenal job! After much research, I decided to start with this lens to add reach to the kit lens. Now, I'm not satisfied with the quality of the kit lens, since this one is SO sharp! Zoom and manual focus are very smooth, and auto focus is quick and (mostly) accurate. (Every... Read more
I purchased this lens over a year ago. This was my first Canon L Series lens. It is called Canon's sharpest zoom lens, and from my experience, I'd have to agree. The Image Stabilization claims up to four F-Stops. My experience backs this up. At a local park near dusk, I photographed deer handheld at 1/15 of a second and 200mm and the photos were all tack sharp. Read more
I purchased this mainly for studio portraiture and maybe I've been using the 135L and 85 f/1.8 too long but this is not to those levels of resolution, particularly soft focus in the 80 to 110 range at f/5.6 to f/14. It's still very good but I was hopeful it would be more prime like. I mean the 135L and 100 f/2.8 macro don't need any sharpening of any sort, eyelashes are always perfect, unless error on my part. I just don't quite get that with this lens. Of course, those... Read more
