Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM is clearly one of the best EF mount telephoto zoom lenses available on the market. The lens shows outstanding image quality with particular strength in the 70-135mm range. Combine this with excellent build quality, well controlled artifacts such as vignetting and chromatic aberration, and you get a winner on your hands. Granted, Canon offers a full lineup of 70-200mm lenses in its modern portfolio, including a somewhat cheaper, non IS... Read more

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM L IS is capable to deliver a near-flawless performance is all categories. The resolution figures are very impressive even at max. aperture. Distortions, vignetting and CAs are usually nothing to worry about either. The build quality is excellent with the new sealing as a another highlight. On top of that the lens features a image stabilizer with an efficiency equivalent to 4 f-stops (at cost of shutter speed if you exploit the potential to... Read more

It is very pleasant to test the lens and have nothing bad to say about it in the summary. In all honesty, the only major flaw we would point out would be the performance for the maximum aperture at the 70 mm focal length. In our overall judgment, the results are very good, but when seeing very high results at other diaphragms and focal lengths, we would want more! Can the high price be a con too? I did write this as a con and I would leave it if the stabilization was the... Read more

I own a number of zooms and primes, and am now on my 5th DSLR. Although I now own zooms that cover more range, primes from wide angle to long telephoto, I keep coming back to this lens for one reason: unmatched quality. I was in the store to get a 70-200mm f 2.8, and when the clerk brought it out I was shocked at the weight. I realized that I wouldn't enjoy carrying it around. There was a Canon event at the time in the store, so I talked with the rep and looked at some... Read more

This was my first significant lens purchase, and it hasn't disappointed. I have a Rebel Xsi, and without the battery grip, this lens would seem a bit large on that body, but otherwise it does a phenomenal job! After much research, I decided to start with this lens to add reach to the kit lens. Now, I'm not satisfied with the quality of the kit lens, since this one is SO sharp! Zoom and manual focus are very smooth, and auto focus is quick and (mostly) accurate. (Every... Read more

I love this camera... I take railroad photographs and it is awesome. Wish it had more mm, but for the price it is plenty. Photos are amazingly sharp, even with the 1.4x extender. Focus is fast and silent. Read more

Great lens - this lens consistently gets good reviews, and for good reason. It is small (for a telephoto L lens), balances nicely on the Rebels and 7D, and focuses easily and quietly. Stunning image quality. Bonus - internal zoom/focus means the lens won't extend during carrying. If you don't need the extra aperature that the f/2.8 version offers, you won't be disappointed with this lens at half the price and a smaller size. Read more

PROS: In short, a STATE-OF-THE-ART-LENS: - Space age 4-STOP! IS - Tack-SHARP edge to edge at any aperture - WEATHER SEALED - Fast - Spectacular Bokeh - Statistically, the best IQ out of the four 70-200mm lenses (although not by much unless compared w/ the f/2.8 IS) - Light (for those who care about that) CONS: - The Hood - relatively minor gripe, but uh, that thing is ugly! - No Lens Tripod Ring - you really won't need it Bottom Line: I was not going to get a long...
