Palm Tungsten E2

The Tungsten E2 is said to be the replacement for the popular Tungsten E from Palm itself. It has the same form factor, design and a few features have been enhanced and updated in the E2. Measures at 4.5 by 3.1 by 0.6 inches and weights at 4.7 ounces. The outer look has a dark-silver finish It sports a 3.7-inch-diagonal TFT color screen with 320x320-pixel resolution and it can display 65,536 colors. Just below the screen is a virtual input area with one-touch access to the Home page, with Menu on the left side, while Favorites and a search function sit on the right. Four standard customizable shortcut keys (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Notepad, by default) and a five-way navigation toggle are featured. On top of the device, there’s an SDIO/MMC expansion slot, a power button, a 3.5mm headphone jack that accepts Walkman-style headphones, and an infrared port. There’s a stylus holder on the right.

Features

In this device, there’s the built-in Bluetooth® wireless technology. A Bluetooth phone can be used with this handheld and the VersaMail® email client to send email and text messages or surf the Web2 with the Blazer® web browser. Office documents like Word, Excel®, and PowerPoint® files can be accessed on this device as well as the viewing of Acrobat PDFs. There’s the touch and in sync whereby you can sync your calendar, contacts, tasks, notes and email from Outlook® to your handheld. The Tungsten™ E2 handheld can be taken as a portable MP3 player as it has an expansion card4 and by using the built-in speaker, or a set of stereo headphones. Photos as well as movie clips can be viewed and watched on this device. It supports JPEG, TIFF, BMP files up to 5 mega pixels in resolution if sufficient memory is available on the handheld. SD card from digital camera can be inserted in this handheld to view the shots taken. The Tungsten requires a compatible Bluetooth enabled computer. It requires compatible GSM mobile phone with Bluetooth wireless technology, data service from a mobile service provider and an ISP, sold separately. Accessories, expansion cards, and applications sold separately. Headphones are required for stereo sound (not included). It includes Palm OS 5.4 and Documents To Go 7.0. It has the specifications of OS provided: Palm OS Garnet 5.4; Installed RAM: 32 MB; Processor: Intel 200 MHzXScale.

    I'm stuck on palm OS, this is my 15th palm PDA. I now expect units to fail within 1 year, usually last about 8 months (I'm a heavy user.) Until I migrate to smartphone or Windows OS I'll just keep buying these. Read more

    My Palm cost me £99.90 from Amazon and I think it was a very good purchase, but then I am a gadget man a would probably say that anyway. I also purchased the aluminium case for £18 which protects my little gem. I'm not going to kid you it isn't the best handheld on the market, but the rest are all away in the £200 bracket so for value for money it is a pretty good buy. Read more

    I can't comment about it too much because it's the wifes - but one issue she had was the screen needed recalibration to the stylus...which proved unsucessful. The PDA wasn't picking up the right coordinate of where the stylus was and therefore, given the small screen, it would take you into a different application which had it's icon just below where you clicked/tapped.
