HP iPAQ 614c Business Navigator

The iPAQ 614c Business Navigator is a 3G mobile phone with GPS navigation. HP iPAQ Mobile Broadband Connect, GPS, 3G and Quad-band wireless technology are all included. This Smartphone has the dimension of 6 cm x 1.8 cm x 11.7 cm and weights 145 g. Display type is 2.8" TFT active matrix with 16-bit (64k colours) and resolution of 240 x 320. There’s the Smart Touch navigational wheel that enables scrolling. As far as memory capacity is concerned, it has 256 MB ROM and 128 MB RAM. This device supports flash memory cards such as MicroSD. There’s a power adapter and the voltage required is AC 120/230 V (50/60 Hz). The power capacity is 1590 mAh. It has a talk time of up to 240 min and a standby time of up to 250 h. It includes 1 year warranty and technical support for 90 days.

Features

The HP Voice Commander and HP Voice Reply are also featured. Portrait to landscape display modes are featured. The HP iPAQ Device Connect helps to take your notebook or PC online over the HSDPA data network. For GPS purposes, there’s the Smart Travel Companion for Turn-by-Turn Navigation. There’s the Mobile Office Outlook that includes Calendar, Contacts, Email, and Tasks. It has wireless access and the ability to run enterprise applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. An integrated 3 Mega pixel camera is also featured that can capture photos and videos. The Windows Mobile Media Player featured can be used to watch videos, music purposes and read ebooks. A stereo headset is included. Cables included are a 1 x USB cable and a 1 x power cable. Compliant standards are CE, UL, C-Tick, GOST, SABS, SASO, CCC, DOC, MOC, FCC, RoHS and DGT. Its operating system/software is Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional. Overall, its features are Calculator, Voice Recorder, Asset Viewer, Solitaire, File Manager, MSN Messenger, Microsoft ActiveSync, Phone Dialer, Bluetooth Manager, Adobe Acrobat Reader, PDF Viewer, Voice Notes, iPAQ Wireless, Wireless Manager, Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile, Bubble Breaker, Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile, Microsoft Office Mobile, Today PanelLite, HP Photosmart Mobile, HP Help and Support, Certificate Enroller, HP Setup Assistant, ZIP, Windows Media Player Mobile and Google Maps. Its processor is Marvell XScale PXA270 520 MHz.

    The iPAQ 614/614c is a chunky candybar-style smartphone, but the trade-off is a large screen and big number pad. The Smart Touch Wheel is not the greatest idea in the world, but there are good points, most notably HP's Voice Reply e-mail system. Read more

    The HP iPAQ 614c Business Navigator is one of those devices where you can see that the company behind it, in this case HP, has said: "Let's get every technology we can think of and put it in a device that can fit in your pocket." The trouble is, somewhere along the line that imaginary pocket has got bigger and bigger until the goal has been achieved but the ability to put it in your pocket has been thrown out of the window.     The 614c is certainly a well-endowed handset. It's not the first to squeeze so much into a pocket-sized chassis, but there are a few notable features, such as A-GPS, 7.2Mbps HSDPA and a very fast processor. Only the non-VGA screen could possibly be said to be behind the times. What really puts the mockers on its prospects, however, is the fact that it's not only a pretty ugly and bulky phone - especially for one without a sliding keyboard - but also one boasting awkw...     At first I was delighted to receive the answer to my prayers... but then reality dawned... poor battery life ( a day if you are lucky)... awkward to send texts (loads of unnecessary keystrokes) ... MMS a nightmare, using the web too much trouble to even bother... Also had data loss issues.... in addition i've been trying to get response from hp customer support... that is even more unreliable than the product itself! Read more

    Was it worth the wait and will I be buying one? Personally I am disappointed with the size, which, don’t get me wrong is not massive by any means, but is still too big for me. It has a lot of nice features as mentioned above, and I think with more regular use and additions of Third Party software add-ons to suit each individual would make this unit very capable and an asset to use for an all-rounder.
