The Nintendo Entertainment System (called NES or Nintendo) is a game console. It was first released in US, later in Brazil , Europe, and Australia in 1985. It was released in Asia earlier in 1983. It was first released as the Family Computer and also knows short as Famicom.

Features

The Nintendo NES original Japanese casing was Famicom in white plastic, with red trimmings, however the US version was two different grey shades with black trimming. The top loading catridge slot of the Japanese version was replaced with the front loading mechanism for the US version. The dimensions of this device is 10“ in width, 8” length and 3.5 in height. The CPU for the Nintendo NES is an 8-bit Ricoh microprocessor that was made according to MOS Technology 6502 core. It is featured together with custom sound hardware and a restricted DMA controller on-die. The NTSC versions uses the Ricoh 2A03 which performs at 1.79MHz. The PAL versions incorporates the Ricoh 2A07 which is the same as the Ricoh 2A03 however, it runs on 1.66 MHz clock rate. The Nintendo NES contains 2KB of RAM and a game cartridge can be expanded to include more memory. It also supports up to 49.128 bytes for read-only memory, expanded RAM and cartridge input/output. The video features a picture processing unit that is custom made by Ricoh. The processor used in the NTSC models are the RP2C02 which runs at 5.37MHz and the PAL model utilises the RP2C07, which operates at 5.32 MHz. The Nintendo NES features an available colour pallette which has 48 colours and 5 grays. The resolution of the display is 256 x 240 vertical pixels. The Nintendo NES supports five sound channels, which includes two pulse wave channels of variable duty cycle, that also has volume control of sixteen levels. It also features additional channels that includes one fixed volume triangle wave channel that supports frequencies from 27MHz to 56kHz.
