Excerpt: The movie Eragon has two of my most favorite things ever: dragons and explosions. And the game has also exploded onto the video game console scene, with a version of Eragon for every single major console available right now.
Excerpt: Animation for the actual game-play however is above decent; your melee combos look fairly impressive, and most enemies are pretty convincing. Your dragon looks good in the few flight segments there are. On the whole however, graphics are about on par with an early PlayStation game and you'll see lots of giant textures and sharp geometry.
Excerpt: With the theatrical release of Eragon , based on Christopher Paolini’s novel by the same name, being only weeks away, Vivendi Games has released a handful of titles for the consoles and handhelds based on the fantasy film. Will Eragon please fans of the movie and book? Or will this one see some of those same flaws that have killed so many potentially great movie-based games? Read on to check out our review of Eragon for the Nintendo DS.
Conclusion: If you’re wondering what it would be like to ride on the back of a giant dragon, crushing those who would dare to oppose you, go out and rent The Neverending Story . You’ll have a better time than you would playing Eragon .
Pros: Moody music
Cons: Not enough dragon riding!, Dull scenery, Pointless quests, Brain dead enemies
Conclusion: Though it doesn’t need to be easier at all. Eragon is a breeze in six to eight hours, and no part, even the final battle, really tasks any of your elite or even rudimentary gaming skills. There is little replay value—the only unlockable items are interviews with the game’s dull creators which are unlocked by finding the “secret egg” in each level.
Excerpt: The Star Wars Kid strikes again. When you are fifteen years old, you can get away with a lot of stuff. Believe me. When you’re thirty, though, no one looks the other way when you bash in their mailbox with a baseball bat. So precocious fifteen-year-old young writer, Christopher Paolini , whose swords and sorcery novel Eragon was published to head-patting approval, seems immune to the rumors of plagiarism floating around the corners of the internet (like this one!).
Pros: Unique visual sense…, Cooperative play…, …that isn’t upgraded for the 360, …that isn’t online, Bland, repetitive gameplay, Drunk dragon, Too easy
