Summary: I am so pleased with my Sony A290. I have taken a shot of a van which has been used in advertising material, I have taken amazing pictures of flat artwork that looks brilliant when blown up, and I generally speaking the camera was an excellent choice. I have only been using it on manual, so I can't comment on the image processing stuff, but the camera focusses perfectly and quickly (although the lens feels a bit wobbly, the images have all been sharp).
Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A290L: Good For The Money But Not The Best Glass!
16 October 2011
Summary: I am personally a wildlife photographer and have been using mostly this body for around a year and a half. I was previously using the a230 and a200. I have personally managed to produce some punchy images and had some great looking Jpeg files straight out of the camera, examples of which have certainly turned a few heads. The Raw files aren't as good as Canon or Nikon alternatives but certainly look good enough.
Pros: Cheap, good sensor resolution, reasonable image quality for the money, built in image stabilisation
Cons: Seams on body can be weak, slow motordrive, below average kit lens
Summary: This is my first venture into owning a Digital SLR. David Bailey I aint and certainly I am no mastermind. Yet within a few minutes of reading the destruction manual I was snapping away! Excellent quality pictures and so easy to use, I'd happily reccomend this camera to anyone. (Also bought the David Busch's 'Guide to Digital Photography' for the Sonly a290/390, see reveiw).
Summary: We spent a great deal of time trawling the internet and shops looking at different cameras. We were after one that could take moving shots and get close up shots. It needed to be easy and simple to use and understand. This Sony was one of the first we came across and the one that we kept coming back to over and over again. The others in the same league just didn't cut it for us. The quality can be felt with this one.
Excerpt: This camera is my prized posession, with 14.2 megapixels the picture quality is stunning. It is very easy to use and has many options, including, sunset, night lights, portrait, macro, sports, etc. you can also customise the settings to your liking. very durable i have dropped it many time and still no problems, i plan on having it for years to come, With sony coming out with more and more lenses the variety will be extensive. The price is great!
Pros: inexpensive, simple, fast, high quality photos .
Summary: This is extremely pricey for this camera. I bought mine for just under £300 at christmas from Comet. However, I will say this is a good camera for first time buyers, and amateur photographers. I am new to photography myself but this camera has been good for me to get to grips with, it's easy to use and has a lot of settings. I have enjoyed every minute of using this camera. The battery life is good as well.
Summary: We brought this camera just to take random photos of our children on our numerous day trips with them. We were not looking for a professional quality camera, but did not want a little digital camera with limited options. We wanted a camera which would take great photos of our kids with out being too heavy to carry around like our DSLR. Thats exactly what we got with this camera , a middle of the road everyday use camera.
Summary: This is my first DSLR camera and i have mixed feelings about it,. Since i'm a novice with DSLR's i have stuck to the Auto setting only trying the manual settings a few times with not so good results (Trying to learn though) The problem is the auto setting is very hit and miss. If i take a couple of pictures back to back in the same spot one will be nice and bright, the other looks like storm clouds have just arrived.
Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A290L: Another to add to the collection
18 January 2011
Summary: I bought one of these as a gift for my partner, I've got a fair few cameras of varying levels of complexity, and so I picked this one out for her. It's fair to say that this is a Mid-range camera, Realisitically, as sold, the Alpha is certainly not a professional choice. That said, I've seen some suberb photo's taken from it, and the actual features on the camera are second to none.
Sony Alpha DSLR290l Entry Level Digital SLR Camera

Summary: Bought as a Christmas present for my wife , who is a excellent photographer , just limited by her camera a Kodak DX6490. She rates the Sony as a "awsome piece of kit" So I am pleased by the purchase. It can perform all sorts of magic tricks within the camera itsels like backround bluring. selecting the focus area, Flash compensation, single or continous shooting, Video shooting, non of which mean anything to me, but I am assured by my wife that they are "awsome".
