This isn't the sexiest compact camera in town, neither is it the cheapest. But if you can get past the outer aesthetics, the Ricoh R8 is a reliable, swift and, more importantly, intuitive model to use. Verdict This is a competent camera that will reward an enthusiastic and knowledgable operator with more control over their photos. This in itself may mean better pics from your compact camera. Point-and-shoot types should probably look for a simpler camera, however, while those looking for total control are still going to get a lot more from an SLR. Ricoh R8 is excellent if you are looking for a small size quality camera for its reasonable price(I know many professional use this camera for their alternative of SLR (or Ricoh GR, Leica etc). Photography novice like me can enjoy their easy to use functions, especially "macro" function (it also auto-focuses like good SLR). I have used this camera for over 6months but never had any problem.
