Users can increase handheld shooting shutter speed range by 2.5 to 4 stops for blur-free pictures, and the camera is compatible with every PENTAX lens produced. The body of the camera is made from fiber-reinforced polycarbonate material and a stainless-steel chassis, features 60 seals on it to protect the inner components against humidity, moisture and dust particles. The camera features Auto Picture, Scene and Sensitivity-Priority AE (Sv) mode that automatically select the optimum combination of aperture and shutter speed for a user-selected sensitivity. It also features Pentax Real IMage Engine (PRIME) image processing engine that maximizes image properties and allows custom adjustment of image parameters, such as color tones, dynamic range, and natural-looking high ISO images. The camera features Enhanced Dynamic Range mode which gives 200% more dynamic range, which brings out detail in the highlighted portions of the image while maintaining detail in darker areas. The K200D also has Dust Reduction and Dust Alert features that eliminate the need for time-consuming retouching by sealing against dust and determining if and where any dust remains after the system is activated.

With the K200D, you get ease of use and good performance. But it’s rather bulky and we think it offers far more features than most family members would want or need. If you’re thinking of moving up from a compact, then give the K200D good consideration, but if you’re purely looking for a family camera – go for for the compact option or a super-zoom. Read more

At first glance the Pentax K200D simply looks like an incremental upgrade of the K100D Super, with relatively few additions on offer apart from the 10 megapixel resolution (up from 6 megapixels) and a couple of new buttons. Thankfully Pentax have also made a substantial number of improvements under the hood that help improve on what was already an excellent camera, borrowing both the sensor and other features from the K10D. The new Sv shooting mode, greatly-improved... Read more

Alkaline cells don't last well in digital cameras (80 shots in the Pentax) and rechargeable NiMH cells lose power even in storage, which is a bit of a nuisance if you only use your camera sporadically. Read more

The Pentax K200D is a fine accomplishment: ergonomics are quite excellent (except menus), satisfactory image quality, pleasant optical viewfinder, stabilization, etc. Despite several weaknesses, the K200D is one of the best entry level reflexes. Read more

I've always had a interest in cameras and even as a child used an SLR 35mm camera, I was still happily stuck in my ways until borrowing a digital camera from my partner on holiday. Suddenly I had instant access to my pictures and no worries about not having enough film. I decided that it was time I joined the digital age and after a brief bridge camera trial I after long deliberation decided to buy the outsider, the Pentax K200d. I admit I'm stubborn in my ways and as a... Read more
