What can I say? The 880 is simply an excellent digital camera, it takes excellent pictures and has every feature you'd ever need, things that may not seem useful at first but you'll grow into using. For many buyers that was the attraction of the 990, plenty of photographic features, well Kudos to Nikon because instead of stripping the 990 down to produce the 880 they IMPROVED IT!! With the new SCENE modes and newly arranged menus the 880 is better than ever, I'd be just... Read more

The Nikon Coolpix 880 is often referred to as the "baby" Coolpix 990. After all, it does have the same 3.34 Mpixel CCD and almost the exact same functionality, but for less money ($799, street priced under $700). The most noticeable difference between the 880 and 990 is the body -- the 880 has a body that reminds some of the Olympus C-2000/3000 series, while the 990 has its trademark swiveling lens. The lenses are also different -- the Coolpix 880 has a 2.5X optical... Read more
I bought this camera for $300 from a colleague about a year ago. Since then, I've used it almose constantly, and clicked more than a thousand pictures. Its a wondeful camera to have! This is a 3 Mega Pixel camera. It stores pictures in Jpeg or Tiff format. The picture clarity is excellent, and prints are usually indistinguishable from regular camrea prints. The camera can be used in a variety of modes, from fully automatic point-and-shoot to almost fully manual. My... Read more
The Good - After 7 months of use, the Coolpix 880 has outstanding quality and flexibility for a semi serious photo enthusiast, but is overkill for casual use. Takes excellent photos in the most marginal conditions (backlit, very low light, sun/shadow.) Excellent onboard photo management/review. More metering options than a Boston Meter Maid. Auto mode will point and shoot with the best of 'em, and special metering modes can be used for especially tricky shots. The number... Read more
I spent many months reviewing digital cameras to determine the best one to buy. My highest criteria was excellent color balance, excellent light balance, at least 3.3 megapixels, and full featured. The Coolpix 880 wins hands down on all of this. I have consistently taken excellent pictures in the "auto" (point n shoot) mode. It also has a "Scene" mode, which is a set of 11 presets for common picture-taking scenarios, such as portraits, landscape, indoor party, etc. The... Read more
I have now been using this digital camera for 3 months after it arrived new to the UK scene. At first I was nonplussed by the lack of twain drivers for retrieving pictures but within a day I had come to terms with the instruction book and now I am extremely impressed. The camera is easy to use, has a large capacity fo storage and produces the finest quality of pictures to grace my home computer. The on board choices for setup is large and the menus are easily navigated.... Read more
