Features

There’s the Genuine Canon Face Detection Technology that helps to set the focus, exposure and flash automatically. The new Face Selector Button that lets you select the primary face. This digital camera is compatible with a wide range of accessories including EOS Speedlites, Canon supplementary lenses and a waterproof case. There’s a Print/Share button that is for direct printing and downloading, plus an ID Photo Print and Movie Print with select PIXMA Photo Printers, CP and SELPHY Compact Photo Printers. This camera has 12.1-megapixel resolution whereby users can enlarge images to poster size, and crop any section of images. The DIGIC III Image Processor enables Canon’s Face Detection Technology and Red-eye Correction to work better just by pressing the Shutter Button halfway down, and the camera will do its job. The iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the DIGIC III Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance. The camera is equipped with a long 6x optical zoom. There’s also the Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer Technology that helps to keep images steady and clear. Because it is an optical system, more corrective movement is allowed and there is no degradation of image quality. Without revolutionizing its class, Canon offers an expert compact that is rather nice to use and equipped with interesting functions; RAW mode, stabilized lens, and a large screen. It’s just unfortunate that there is no true wide angle and noise control is a bit shaky at 800 ISO and above. Read more

And so, the upgrade of the G7 that is the Canon PowerShot G9 has been fixed – to a degree. It’s the same price as the G7 at £330, so not cheap, but no more expensive and it is a better camera. The lens is sharp and crisp but could still do with the faster apertures of the G6 from a few years back with its impressive F/2.0 to F/3.0 maximum aperture range. Nevertheless, in terms of control, features and build, the G9 is a cracker; image quality and performance are... Read more

This is by far the best compact I have ever used, Nice sharp images with natural colours, the optical viewfinder is a good size and bright, if I have any complaint of this camera it would be that my previous camera ( Powershot pro 1 ) had a liveview screen which tilted and rotated making it easy to use in difficult viewing spaces, but this model does offer excellent macro capabilities etc which on balance more than make up this shortfall. As an amateur photographer, when looking for a camera, I first set out for a DSLR. I found this Canon PowerShot G9 camera thanks to CNET and, after reading a couple reviews decided to start with that. As I ordered it, I felt somewhat deceived of my choice, this lasted until I opened the box. I have now had this camera for over a Year and I've had a GREAT time with this camera (i've hiked through the alps and traveled on a couple of continents with this camera. sample... Read more

Photography is one of my few serious hobbies. Late last year, I bought myself the newest Semi-Professional SLR Canon had to offer -- the EOS 40D. The 40D has traveled almost everywhere with me around the city since then, but it felt like a couple things were missing. I can't take my 40D everywhere. It's a large camera and I need to bring around a separate bag of equipment with it. What I needed was a camera that offered top notch picture quality that I could truly bring... Read more

I asked around about the best digital camera for around 200-300 quid. Several people in the know suggested the Canon G series as the best value for money and best functionality. The G9 doesn't disappoint. Excellent features, easy to use, great zoom, long battery life and superb quality. Plus it does all sorts of handy things and it's easy to figure out how it all works. It feels solid and weighty, but in a good way - giving you confidence it's a well-built piece of kit... Read more
