Canon EOS 400D digital SLR
Reviewer: reghardware.co.uk2 weeks ago- Overall 8

Let’s be blunt: there are better DSLRs on the market and the fast-moving world of digital photography means that the EOS 400 is hardly a top rank camera. But we think it is a fine model for anyone dipping their toe into DSLR photography and doesn’t want to lose the shirt on their back in order to own a DSLR camera. Read more

The 400D is a fully featured camera that yields excellent image quality at a very reasonable price. But we'd recommend getting your hands on a model before committing to a purchase, to check you like the size and feel. Read more

The Canon EOS 400D announcement seemed to be very understated compared to the raft of other 10 megapixel DSLRs announced this year. Most of the headlines seemed to have been grabbed by the Sony A100 and the Nikon D80, with Canon looking as though they almost missed the boat with their later product launch. However, Canon are not afraid to let people know that ... Read more

I adore my camera, it's my first proper camera and I've learned a lot from it. I would recommend it as a first rate camera. I've had no trouble and I'm nearly at the three year mark with her! Read more

An excellent bundle
Reviewer: Andrew J. Poulter, Amazon27 December 2007- Overall 10

I'm not going to review the excellent Canon EOS 400D (as there are dozens of professional reviews of the camera already on the internet) - but it really is an excellent DSLR - the best by far at it's price-point. This bundle include the 400D body, the superb 17-85 IS USM (stabilised) lens; and (Amazon don't make this clear) the Canon battery grip. The 17-85mm IS USM lens is generally regarded as the best general purpose lens for the 400D. I've seen the "regular" kit l... Read more

Buying an 400XTi....which way should I go?
Hi Mitch, I've moved this thread to the Canon forum. You'll get your best feedback here as your question is Canon specific - hope you don't mind. If you haven't already found it please check out Gordon's Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi kit lens upgrade group test which may help answer some of your questions. He has also reviewed the EF-S 17-85mm f4~5.6 IS USM lens separately here . There is another active thread on the Canon forum ( here ) started by another potential XTi buyer. I nearly link...

canon 400D all rounder lens
...as you have noted, by opting for the 400D you give yourself more options, budget wise, in your choice of lens. As you have realised, the 18-55 kit lens is fine but there are better, albeit more expensive, options out there. Have you read Gordon's article Canon EOS 400D / Digital Rebel XTi kit lens upgrade group test ? There's some excellent advice there. That said, I bought an EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens with my 400D last year and haven't regretted it. If budget permits have a look at Gordon's review (or his 40D review which was done with the 2...
