  • Conclusion: MiniDV is yesterday’s news at yesteryear’s price. The GS90 is incredibly cheap for what you get: unbeatable zoom power, straightforward operation and video quality that’s, well, just fine.
  • Pros: Who needs High Definition when you can just keeping zooming in? The Panny’s 42x optics could give the Hubble telescope a run for its money – although hold off calling Nasa until you’re sure all those galaxies you’re filming don’t just contain chocolate and caramel. Apart from a dedicated electronic viewfinder for use in bright weather (or to save power), there aren’t too many techy features on board this budget shooter, but you do have manual focus and iris control an...
  • Cons: Get used to annoying waits as the GS90 clunks and whirrs slowly into life – and the sluggish autofocus requires just as much patience, especially at the telephoto end of the zoom. There’s no digital stills mode or SD card.
