The Canon XM2 is a unique camcorder with specific features, which are designed for your comfort. It has an excellent shape that gives it a professional touch. The Canon XM2 has very distinguishable colour clarity along with an outstanding image quality with an optical zoom of 20X. It also has a two-channel audio control unit that is an added advantage. Even though it is seen as a heavy and bulky product, it is lightweight and can be easily carried around wherever you want to go. It also has a 1.7 mega pixel still capture image. The drawback related to it is that it has a mediocre battery life, which includes a cell and it has an onboard microphone, which is omni directional. The Canon XM2 has a lot of control buttons which can easily confuse the user. There are just too many controls which can make things quite difficult. Its sleek lines are enhanced by the colour combination of the outer surface which is just simply awesome. The silver and charcoal colour combination, is very attractive. As this camcorder is lightweight it does not take a toll on your hands. Handheld shooting is possible with complete ease. The Canon XM2 offers you manual focus as well as automatic focus and excellent exposure control.
On the flip side, the autoexposure is a little slow to respond to changes in lighting. However, its advantages include excellent image and colour quality. It performs very well even in low light situations. The Canon XM2 comes with colour gain which is adjustable, settings for shutter speed and black level settings. The audio recording unit comes with dials and meters for different control over the channels. You can even add an adapter which is compatible with XLR terminated microphones. Overall the Canon XM2 is truly a system worthy investing in.

So is this camera a stop gap in the pricing war, or are there other reasons to consider? If you're looking to get high quality picture definition from your camcorder then nothing short of 3CCD will do, and the XM2 delivers. When a camera records a... Read more

Well for what it's worth the Sony PD170 and Canon XM2 are far better in low light than the GS250 - in that the threshold before gain needs to be added is lower. Jon
