Let's cut straight to the chase. This is a very, very good camcorder! There's nothing at all missing from the feature list and the comprehensive connectivity really is something to write home about. Not only is its HDV/DV recording capability a boon, but its ability to handle either format in either direction via FireWire is also a big plus. Having a mic input and also a headphone output (actually switchable on the single AV c... Read more

Impressed
Reviewer: Christopher Sedman "chrisrosevilla", Amazon3 weeks ago- Overall 10

I bought this as a cheap way into HD for use on a 55" full HD tv after using a great TRV20 Sony DV model for several years. The picture quality, particularly on cine mode, is stunning. The detail even on a giant screen is outstanding. This size screen shows up the slightest picture problem on blu ray let alone Sky HD. 1st impressions not brilliant as it feels slightly flimsy and lightweight compared to the Sony but that wears off quickly. The control positioning obvio... Read more

Great HD movies

One of the cheapest HD cameras around at the moment and one of the best! Great movie quality and the zoom is amazing. Night shoots are a bit on the noisey side, but switch on the Cinemode shooting and 24fps and you will get perfect night shoots. The image stability feature is also great. Especially when you are in a car. I recommend you also buy some sort of UV filter to protect the lense, as the HV20 doesn't come with a lense cover. Read more

Replacement for XM2?
The Canon HV20 will give you better quality than the XM2 and will fit in the average pocket as well. See this review . Colin

Low light, it really matters!
Is this true with the Canon HV20, I'd read that using HDMI and a Blackmagic card you could get true pre-compression 1920x1080 from the beasty? R

AVCHD - is it too early to jump in?
it all sounds very encouraging. I'm wondering now if I should wait for an SHDC version of the Canon HV20/HG10 and a SimplyDV shootout of all the AVCHD models
