  • Excerpt: There is no doubt that the HTPC enthusiast has some options when looking for a chassis to fill the void in their entertainment center. It seems like so many of the options are either too small, too big, to ugly, or too expensive. With that in mind, SilverStone has stepped up their game.

  • Excerpt: It seems a lot of the times that I do run across some sort of HTPC chassis, they seem to be as tiny as possible to not be an intrusion on your home theaters design or layout. The benefit of these smaller units is that they can offer you all of the ability of a desktop PC, but most won't allow for graphics cards or even an add-on sound card to deliver the top end performance we expect out of our HTPCs.

Benchmark Reviews

  • Conclusion: When it comes to performance, it's somewhat difficult to give a rating for the GD06. On the one hand it held lots of stuff really well, but on the other hand it was a real pain to build. But compared to other HTPC cases the build could have gone much worse. Still, everything requires a screwdriver, the screws are different sizes and threads, and there were a ton of screws. It made me wish even just for thumb screws on the top panel at least.
  • Pros: Small Form Factor, Compatible with standard parts, Large video card support, Front door hides I/O ports, Sturdy construction, Three 120 mm fans included, Hot-swappable, front-access HDDs, Space provided for cables
  • Cons: Multiple tools required, Too many screws, Different sizes of screws, No IR support, Ambiguous appearance

SilverStone Grandia GD06 Case Review

Hardware Secrets
29 June 2011
  • Summary: The SilverStone Grandia GD06 can be a good option if you are looking for an HTPC case with a high number of disk drive bays and positive air pressure configuration. The price is fair for a case with the features the GD06 has, but if you don’t care about the hot-swap bays but still want a good HTPC case at a lower price point, consider . (The GD04 doesn’t have USB 3.0 ports, though.

[Review] Silverstone GD06 – Grandia Series

TechREACTION
7 April 2011
  • Conclusion: Overall, the Silverstone GD06 was surprisingly easy to work with. If you don’t mind busting out the screw driver, taking out and putting in about 15-20 screws, then you will enjoy this case. We would not imagine people changing in and out hardware often with the GD06, which makes the screw situation acceptable. The wire management was as good as you could get in an HTPC case.

  • Summary: With the Grandia GD06, SilverStone aimed to design a case specifically for home theater PC setups. With the various options and the versatile storage options of this case, they seem to have accomplished their mission with flying colors. The case is very solid, attractive, and would look great in the rack or on the shelf of any home theater setup, large or small.

  • Pros: - Strak design (toch belangrijk voor een HTPC), - stevig, - onderdelen gemakkelijk te monteren
  • Cons: - fans zijn VEEL te luid voor een HTPC, heb deze dan ook direct vervangen
