iPod control via USB issue

Am I being incredibly dim? I have purchased and fitted the DPX503U and am very impressed with the quality of the unit. My issue is that when my iPod is connected via USB I am able to play an album and use the controls on the unit. When the album finishes it will then replay the entire album. Okay not a problem but if I want to choose another album I do not seem able to do so unless I disconnect the USB from the unit. My iPod then functions as I would expect and I can then play another choice. Is there a setting to allow me this functionality whilst the iPod is connected to the unit via USB? I am able to do so when it is docked to my speaker in the bedroom so I am a little confused... HELP!!
